Election Integrity Listening Tour West Slope Trip

bjbjz So we ve been traveling around the Western Slope here. ve visited Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Montrose, Durango, Alamosa. And what the goal really is to do is to get a sense of how well we did in the 2012 elections and what we can do to improve things for the upcoming 2014 elections. What I want to make sure is that from the Secretary of State s office that we re really listening to people and understanding what we can do better. I think we had a great election in 2012, but we want to improve on that so we can have a better election in 2014. So we had a really good 2012 election. Our voter participation was up. We had more registered voters than ever before. We had more voters than ever before. Our military and overseas voters, they voted even more frequently that went up thirty percent compared to four years ago. So on the participation side we did really, really well here in Colorado. On voter security, election integrity, we did great too. We uh, our voter rolls are cleaner than I think than they ve ever been before. re focused on making sure that only eligible people are the ones who vote. And that s really worked as well. We had, this last election cycle, about a quarter million people, on their own updated their information to make sure it was accurate. And then on election day itself, far fewer problems than we ve had in years past. So that doesn t mean we can t improve, but compared to years past in Colorado, and compared to other battleground states, we did very, very well. You know, we ve gotten a lot of really good feedback, uh some concerns about provisional ballots, but a lot of people were really pleased with some of the new things that we did this year, like online voter registration, some of the security measures we ve taken, and the work we did. So I think people are pretty happy with that overall, but we ve identified a couple areas were we could do things better. Provisional balloting is one of them, communications in a few areas, dealing with some canvass boards in some counties. But, uh, but overall it s been pretty positive and we ve gotten some really good specific ideas going forward too.
