Fran Kick: That's what motivates people. When you see something is in it for you, you're motivated to do it.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to prove it. If I put a pile of twenty-dollar bills on
the stage, huge mountain of money stacked to the ceiling spilling into the first row of tables and I told
everyone here: "This is a great group, want you to have a lot of fun, come up and take as many as you want."
Would you just take one?
No, you'd grab a whole bunch.
I don't think you'd hesitate very long. You wouldn't turn to the person who's with you, in charge, an advisor
or teacher, and say "Do we HAVE to do this?"
No, you'd run right up here and you'd grab as many as you could. You wouldn't let anyone
or anything get your way. I don't even think you'd talk it over with your friends ahead of time:
"How many you gonna take? Five? Oh, a hundred dollars that's a lot of money." [Laughter]
You'd be like, "Five! Give me that bag, load that baby up!" You wouldn't carefully examine the twenty-dollar bills
saying: "Oh, this one has wrinkles on it, I just want the crisp ones." [Laughter]
No! I mean wrinkled, crisp, old, new, you would not care. Why?
Because they'd all have value.
You might even rip a few in the process and you'd say forget it we'll tape them together later,
just grab them all!
And you'd walk out of this opening session thinking this is the best part of the whole thing
so far. You would tell friends and family about this guy came in with a pile of $20 bills, and say:
"I walked out of there with eighteen-thousand six-hundred and forty dollars! It was great!
I was motivated!" [Laughter]
And you'd get a lot on it.
Well sure you would
Mostly because you would put a lot into it
Same thing's true here this weekend. If you put a lot into it,
you're going to get a lot out of it. Same thing's true in school
if you put a lot into it, you get a lot out of it.
Same thing's true on a job, or a career or a relationship
The more you put into it, the more you get out of. And yet sometimes I don't think we
see the opportunity that's right there in front of our face. Equal if not greater in
value to those twenty dollar bills.
