be sure your system meets the minimum requirements to use the DNS-323
Alright, let's open the box
please read: if you do not plan to install an additional hard drive skip steps one
through four of the hardware installation section of the quick installation guide and
start the step five
pull the DNS-323 out of its packaging
on the front you can see the power button
on the back
we have the usb port
ethernet port, power
two hard drive eject levers
and a cooling fan
also included is the CD-rom
manual, quick install guide
and warranty information
for your convenience included is a cable clip
there's an ethernet cable
power adapter
and below the last packaging crate is the second part of the power adapter
okay let's connect the DNS-323 to your network
first let's plug together the power adapter and go ahead and plug it into the wall
plug in to provided ethernet cable into the back of your router
and plug the other end to the back of the
DNS-323
also plug in the power adapter
Press the power button
you'll see the network activity light begin to light up
on either side of the network activity light are the
drive lights
The drive light on the right begins to light up
and notice the other drive light does not light up indicating an empty drive bay
now that we set up the DNS-323
let's go to our computer and setup the software
insert the cd that came with the DNS-323 into your computer
if prompted go ahead and run the application
when the D-Link two bay network storage enclosure window comes up select the
easy search utility
the application will automatically find your new drive on your network
here you can also click the configuration button to change the device configuration
but since this special edition DNS-323 comes pre-installed with a one terabyte
of storage
you don't need any additional configuration to use your new device
what we'll do is map the drive to your computer for easy access
to do this start by selecting the device
from the network storage device window
and under drive mapping select volume_1
under available drive letters leave it at letter Z and click connect
the confirmation window pops up you know you have successfully mapped the DNS-323
to your computer
click ok and exit the programs to finish
to access the drive simply go to the Windows Start button click on computer or my computer
depending on your version of windows
and double click the newly-created drive from the list
we used drive letter Z
as you can see the drive is empty but you can drag and drop any files onto the drive and
they will be available here as a backup
we will back up the photo chrysanthemum by dragging the photo from the My Photo library folder
to the DNS-323 on the Z drive
as you can see the photo is now in both locations
it's as simple as that
