In this video you will see Dao demonstrate just one of the
many natural dye colour creations we have at Thai Silk Magic.
This particular one is a fung tree. A very common tree around our village.
And there Dao is adding the small pieces to some warm water.
As you can see it almost instantly turns a brown colour and
if you leave it long enough it would turn red.
But of course there are many stages in the natural dyeing process to go.
But this is just a demonstration.
Then we'll add these magic things.
They're called rice padi bush oysters.
There they are being cleaned and getting ready to be placed
into this particular pot where they'll be cooked for 4 hours.
On Dao's hand you can see the shells there both before and after
cooking.
And this is just one of the ways we can start to create some of
the magic natural dye colours.
There is the gooey substance of the shells after 4 or 5 hours of cooking.
And now Dao will add this particular substance to the fung tree chips.
And just watch what happens.
Sprinklng into the cup there as you can see.
And can you see the difference in the colour?
Look carefully.
There it's starting to turn shades of purple already.
Now of course they are quite a few other stages to go and this is just
a demonstration of our natural dyes.
But there is the finished product.
One of our most popular colours.
The deep purple.
