Hi! I'm Margot, film editor of Wildpath's Buried Moon music video.
Let's talk about my job.
Editing is about watching all available footage, selecting and organizing it to tell a story and make the right choices...
It's also a work involving rhythm. That's what I did on the bonus videos.
Buried Moon music video includes constraints: I already had the story and had to fit the playing time.
I am going to ...
...have a break.
We need more band footage.
There is also too many cat shots...
- I love cats. I do love cats! - But you're scared of that one!
... but that shot is a thousand years long ! We can't keep it like that...
It lasts a life time.
I had to keep the pace between music and images.
On a fast music, you can't put long shots on screen or you would feel like the music is running over the video.
They both have to be in tune.
It must be smooth... her voice leads the whole thing on the singing parts.
Editing a good music video is about picking and standing by the right rhythm.
Sometimes it's led by the melodies, sometimes by the rhythmic parts.
I look like a child!
I'm putting markers on the timeline to get the editing rhythm.
They're so straight in line!
Putting markers helps to know where to cut shots without listening the audio over and over.
See, we're making progress!
Back again on the kinda "pam…..pam….pam…pam..pam.pampampam" structure!
Come on, read it...In the sky...guide...ness...
