What's up guys? I just wanted to do a quick video here about some of my advancements in
sound here. Hopefully this is quite a bit better than using the webcam mic. I have an
incredibly jury-rigged system here at this point, so let me go through it real quick
here. So, a few years ago I had actually purchased a boom and a mic that I forgot about and I
was actually intending on using that for recording some guitar. So, I realized that I still had
this and that I could hook it up and do videos with that. So, the mic is a Shure PG58 mic
and when I got it I had a few different adapters to go to the, what is it, 3.5mm jack in the
computer and so this was the adapter and the mic - I'm not super familiar with how these
work - but, it's an adapter that goes in - and I'm not going to show you the funny part yet
here - but, (we'll just go with this) so there was this main piece for the microphone and
then it goes to this adapter that goes to a 1/4" like you'd have with a guitar cable
and then that 1/4" was going through this adapter to the 3.5mm so it could go into the
microphone input. So, I remember having this problem back when I set up the mic before
and it just sounded terrible, absolutely terrible. There was a ton of feedback and the voice
or the guitar would actually just sound really, really low. And, I messed and messed with
settings on the computer, couldn't figure it out, so eventually I just gave up on it.
And that was the same process setting it up today. So, I came up with an idea, I said
"You know what? I've been playing this Rocksmith 2014 game and that game came with a 1/4" to
USB cable." So the bells were going off in the head and I thought "Hey, I could take
my amp, plug the microphone into the amp, and then take the Rocksmith cable and run
that from the output of the amp into my computer." So I set that up and it kind of worked, but
there was a ton of feedback, not to mention blowing out my eardrums with the microphone
to amp feedback. So, that didn't really work. I was a little disappointed but I thought,
"You know what, if I just have a 1/4" to 1/4", it would work." And then it dawned on me again,
"Hey, I've got guitar pedals." So this is the jury-rigged part, but it actually seems
to be working pretty well, which I'm really happy about. So, I took my Danelectro guitar
pedal and I have the mic going into the input and the Rocksmith cable going from the output.
So if this isn't the most rediculous setup. But it seems to be working pretty good. And
the best part is that if I really, really want to get creative, I can add a little effects
pedal to my voice here! So yeah this is with the guitar pedal on. Pretty cool! So, I won't
be using that too much. Now, the only other thing that I would like to add to this current
setup, I've seen a lot of guys that have the (and I'm bad with terminology) screen so that
you don't hear me slapin' my lips as much. So, I might pick up one of those today or
tomorrow. But overall this seems to be working out pretty good and I'm happy with it and
I think it is one step closer to making some better videos. So, that's all, just wanted
to give that update and, we'll see you next time.
