His longtime band The Heartbreakers dropped a new song and video called Keep A Little Soul on Wednesday, in what is the first music to be released since the rock icon's death last October The new tune is part of a 60-song box set-- An American Treasure-- that will be released in September. Keep A Little Soul is classic Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers; it was recorded in 1982 during the sessions for the Long After Dark album, but didn't make the final cut There's also never-seen-before footage of the band performing in the official video, as well as some behind the scene shots The box set will contain about a dozen unreleased songs taken for Petty's extensive archive, as well as alternate versions of classic songs, rarities, recordings of live performances and deep cuts The collection of new tunes span all phases of Petty's career and were taken from his extensive archive, with the help of his family According to Petty's website (www.tompetty.com), his wife, Dana, and daughter, Adria, were the primary catalysts for the commission, creation and release of An American Treasure Both serve as executive producers, and, together with Tom’s bandmates, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and his studio collaborator, Ryan Ulyate, curated the box set’s track list 'The criteria was songs that we all felt really said something about dad,' Adria Petty revealed in an interview with CBS News 'It's such a strange thing to lose someone like him.
