Welcome to TeachMeiOS.com where you'll find tips, tricks, apps, and tutorials for your
iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.Today we're going to be talking about one of my favorite jailbreak
tweaks for iOS 7 and it's called Forecast. It doesn't need much of an introduction as
you can see pretty well what it does. iOS 7 included some beautiful animations in its
weather app and Forecast is a tweak that adds these animations directly to your background
of your device. And you can see there on the lock screen it works really really well. You
unlock your device and that snow animation is still being shown behind the app icons
on the home screen. And this is just a really beautiful, well designed jailbreak tweak.
It feels like something that Apple should have included in iOS 7 by default, and the
great thing about it is it changes based on your location. For instance, here's a beautiful
rain animation and you can see when I swipe over, there's an extra page on the lock screen
that shows more detailed weather information just like on the weather app, so you can get
at that without even having to open, unlock your device. Again that rain animation plays
in the background once your device is unlocked, even behind the app icons. Here's another
location. It's obviously night time here. Mostly cloudy, you can see the clouds are
subtly moving across the screen and one of the great things about Forecast is it contextualizes
your device based on what time of day it is. So, at night, it's less harsh on the eyes
because there's typically a dark background. Here's a location that's mostly clear at night.
You can see the stars, and those stars, I don't know if you can tell but they sparkle
and subtly kind of move around behind the lock screen and the app icons. Here's one
more location for you, this is a mostly sunny daytime location. And one of the really great
things about Forecast is it constantly keeps your background updated with new and fresh
animated backgrounds as the weather changes outside so your device always has a fresh
look. But what if you are depressed by the snow in your area and you'd really like kind
of an escape maybe to a different location? Well, you can go into the settings app and
into the privacy pane, and then to Location Services, and scroll all the way down to find
the weather app. If you toggle the weather app location services off, it will, Forecast
will default to using the top, the first location in the actual weather app in iOS. So let's
demonstrate how that works. I've turned location services off and I'm going to open up the
weather app. And you can see my current location is Portland. But if for some reason I'd like
to go to Alaska I can drag Wasilla to the top and go to the home screen, you can see
it takes just a minute for the, for Forecast to update your location once Location Services
is turned off but, oh darn, in Wasilla it's still snowing and now it's 19 degrees, freezing
cold, and dark outside so let's change that one more time. Let's go to Sydney, Australia.
I'll just drag that up to the top to be the first location in my Weather app. I'll go
ahead and power on my device and there you can see it's already nice and warm and sunny
and both my background and my mood have improved because we're now in Sydney. So there's a
few settings that are included with Forecast. Go ahead and open up the settings app, we're
going to scroll down to the jailbreak section which is below a lot of the stuff on the settings
app. Go ahead and tap on Forecast and you can see a number of different toggles, you
can do things like show the current weather, darken the current weather if it's a dark
background it'll darken the text. Show forecast page, that extra page of information. And
then those bottom three toggles: show on lock screen, show on home screen, those will require
a respiring of springboard in order to apply the changes, so that'll just take a second
and then it'll update for you. Let's dive into Cydia, and Forecast is available for
99 cents on the Cydia store, and that's really a steal for a jailbreak tweak like this. I
know a lot of development must have gone into it. David Ashman is the developer behind this
one, and 99 cents is a great price to support him with this. He says he's going to be releasing
updates. So, we'll go ahead and search for Forecast, and here's the page. It's available
on the default repositories on Cydia so you can search for it, purchase it, and download
it and your background on your iPhone or iPod Touch will always be updated with the current
weather conditions. Forecast is not currently available for iPad because Apple did not include
the weather app on the iPad version of iOS. Check it out on Cydia, Forecast, it's available
for 99 cents. Now, obviously you'll need to be jailbroken in order to run Forecast. If
you need more information about jailbreaking iOS 7, check out the link to our post on the
subject just below this video. And you're on TeachMeiOS.com.
