Tensions have only heightened since Pyongyang was hit with new UN sanctions earlier this month. South Korea′s military says it is ready to deal with any provocations from the North, even while President Park Geun-hye′s away for her overseas trip to North America. ″Since North Korea has recently made various threats, the ministry is seeking countermeasures against all eventualities.″ Security and surveillance have been high since Pyongyang conducted its fourth nuclear test and long range rocket launch earlier this year. And in the latest, the defense ministry reported Tuesday that there has also been a rise in North Korean drone activities along the western frontline. It′s believed to be operating numerous different types of UAVs for surveillance and attack purposes. However, the ministry reiterated that it is well prepared to handle any drones that cross the border. The South Korean military is currently implementing a system to track and take down drones that cross into South Korean territory.″ Meanwhile South Korea′s foreign ministry has also urged citizens to take special caution when going near the Chinese-North Korea border. The warning, which was specifically issued to local news organizations, comes after the government recieved intelligence of a possible North Korean terrorist attack or abduction of South Korean journalists and missionaries in the area. Tensions are expected to remain high for the foreseeable future as the regime continues its provocative rhetoric and threats of more weapons tests. Kim Hyun-bin, Arirang News.
