In September 2005, taking advantage of the opportunity to assign domains to communities offered by the ICANN the .cat domain was approved after passing all the examinations with very high marks. In February 2006 the special domain start-up period commenced and on St. George’s Day that same year, any person could register their .cat domain. .cat is the Catalan-language community domain Not only is it a window that allows our language to be known all over the world, but it also enables people from all over the world to contact us in Catalan. This domain is managed by Fundació puntCAT, a non-profit organisation which also aims to consolidate the use of Catalan over the Internet.
