>> Hi and welcome to a new D.I.Y. video tutorial
this year I decided to celebrate the day of the dead
with a project inspired by the mexican culture.
El dia de los muertos is celebrated in Mexico
with a great festivity which lasts two days
during which the departed and the ancestors are celebrated
in a joyfull and colorfull way.
The way mexicans deal with death
is very fascinating and free from the dark connotation of the western culture.
So, in honour of el dia de los muertos
here is a tutorial to create some tiny "nichos"
with pictures taken from la Loteria de los muertos
just like these ones.
For this project we will need:
an hot glue gun,
scissors,
pictures of the Loteria de los muertos printed on cardstock,
glitter glue,
cardstock shadow boxes,
various decorations,
metal charms,
styrofoam,
twizers,
glue,
a cutter
and spray paint.
First of all we need to spray paint the cardstock shadow boxes
and remember to use the spray paint only outside.
While the paint dries
we can start working on the decorations.
Let's start with the pictures I printed on cardstock
as you can see together with the pictures from the Loteria de los muertos
printed in the right dimension to be laid inside the shadow boxes
there are also some composable skeletons
which I downloaded from the internet and you'll find the link on my blog.
Lets' start by cutting them.
Once you cut out all the parts
we can assemble the skeleton using the glue and the twizers
this way.
Here is our skeleton ready to be used as decoration!
Now let's cut out all the other pictures on the cardstock too.
Before we start decorating the boxes
we need to have an exact idea of how to match the elements.
So let's match the details and once we find a satisfying lay out
we can start assembly the nichos.
Using the hot glue
let's place the metal and resin details.
Let's use some dimensional sitckers to adhere the carstock skeleton
in oder to add some dimension.
To brithen up and enrich the decoration
let's use the glitter glue
to draw some doodles on the Loteria de los muertos pictures.
Lets' repeat the same procedure on all the other nichos.
Now let's work on the styrofoam,
I used a recycled packaging I had at home
and let's use the box as a mask to cut it in the right dimensions.
Let's mark the contour with a pen
and use the cutter to shape it.
Using the hot glue let's adhere it inside the box
in order to create a base we will decorate.
As last step let's glue on the styrofoam
the pictures from the Loteria de los muertos
which we decorated with all the details we chose.
Here are our nichos inspired by el dia de los muertos finished!
A project which will help you celebrate the day of the deaths in the right way
and which could turn in a lovely home decor if you like this kind of things.
I hope you liked this tutorial,
as usual I wish you a lovely day
and I'll talk to you in my next video...ciao!
