AT A CASH ADVANCE CENTER.NEWS
18'S BRITTANY TYNER REPORTS..
EMPLOYEES PLAYED THEIR PART TO
KEEP EVERYONE SAFE DURING THE
DAYTIME ROBBERY.#@BRITTANY:
TUESDAY AFTERNOON SEEMED LIKE
JUST ANOTHER DAY FOR CHECK
INTO CASH EMPLOYEES. BUT THAT
QUICKLY CHANGED. POLICE SAY
TWO BLACK MALES IN THEIR 20'S
WALKED INTO THE CASH ADVANCE
CENTER ON SAGAMORE PARKWAY IN
WEST LAFAYETTE AROUND 12:45.
ONE MAN WAS WEARING A MASK,
THE OTHER A HAT. POLICE SAY IT
WASN'T LONG BEFORE A ROBBERY
WAS IN FULL SWING.HARRIS:
"ONE DISPLAYED A SILVER
REVOLVER HANDGUN, THEY WERE IN
THE STORE FOR APPROXIMATELY
TEN-FIFTEEN MINUTES."
BRITTANY: LT. TROY HARRIS
SAYS THE TWO MEN LEFT THE
CHECK INTO CASH WITH AN
UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY.
WITNESSES TOLD POLICE THE MEN
RAN TO THE BACK OF THE
BUILDING AND TOOK OFF IN A
CHARCOAL-GRAY DODGE DURANGO.
HARRIS SAYS A WITNESS MAY HAVE
NOTICED SOMETHING SPECIFIC
ABOUT THE VEHICLE.HARRIS:
"EARLY REPORTS SAY THAT IT MAY
HAVE A BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
LICENSE PLATE. WE CAN NOT
CONFIRM THAT."BRITTANY:
HARRIS SAYS THE EMPLOYEES AT
CHECK INTO CASH PLAYED THEIR
PART TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE..
INCLUDING A CUSTOMER.
HOWEVER.. HE SAYS IT WASN'T
EASY.HARRIS: "DUE TO WHERE
THE EMPLOYEES WERE AT IN THE
STORE AND WHERE THE SUSPECTS
WERE LOCATED AND THE THREAT
THAT WAS EXPOSED BY HAVING THE
FIREARM POINTED AT THEM, THEY
DIDN'T FEEL IT WAS SAFE TO
ACTIVATE ANY EMERGENCY
DISTRESS SIGNALS."BRITTANY:
HARRIS SAYS AN EMPLOYEE CALLED
IN THE ROBBERY AS SOON AS THE
MEN LEFT. HE SAYS POLICE HAVE
GATHERED SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE
FROM CHECK INTO CASH AND
CONDUCTED SEVERAL INTERVIEWS
WITH WITNESSES. HARRIS DOESN'T
BELIEVE THIS ARMED ROBBERY IS
RELATED TO RECENT ROBBERIES IN
THE GREATER LAFAYETTE AREA.
