Welcome to this week's Cruiser Customizing Tip of the Week where we're gonna cover heated
grips.
Last episode, we covered heated gear. From your head to your feet, how do you keep your
body warm. Now, I wanna talk about what you can install in your motorcycle to keep your
hands warm. Heated grips are definitely the way to go.
Once you ride with a set of heated grips, you're not gonna want to ride any bike that
doesn't have them if you intend to ride in chilly weather.
There are two basic types of heated grip. There are two ways you can get heat to your
grips. The first is a set of grips that already has heating elements in them that you're just
gonna remove your stock grips and replace with a set of heated grips. The second way
that you'll be able to get heat on your grips is by installing something like the Heat Demon
Zesto. Take a look.
These aluminum sleeves slide inside the handlebar, allowing 4 different temperature ranges, so
you can have any grip, any temperature that you want when the weather gets chilly.
These applications offer heat to the hand grips. But the one differentiator? How they
install. Let's take a second and look at each different installation techniques for each
of these different manufacturers.
The heated grips from Show Chrome Accessories are absolutely the easiest grips to install
if you're looking to put heating grips on your motorcycle. You can go with a plain black
rubber grip or the chromed-out comfort grip. Take a look.
This is the power lead,positive-negative to the battery, then runs right up to the controller
connector. So once power's is connected to the controller, all you got to do is run the
lines from your grips and it's a direct plug and play. Grips to controller to power. It's
that simple. 3 pieces and you're on the road with heatedgrips.
If you're looking for the least expensive way to put heated grips on your motorcycle,
Hot grips are definitely the way to go.
Now, we're gonna take a little bit more effort of work in big bikes Show Chrome accessories
grips. Take a look.
You basically have your wire. We're gonna wire this to any of your 12 volt accessory
socket ports. That's then gonna go out to the switch. From the switch, you're gonna
have a high and low.You then gonna run the low over to your resistor then limit the amount
of power that's going to the grips. So this particular set of grips, you've got the high
and low. The low determined by the resistor, so grips to the resistor, to the switch, to
the 12 volts. It's fairly simple.
The Heat Demon grip polymers are a great way to put heat to any custom grip you already
have installed on your motorcycle or your planning to install. The installation of this
product is a little more in-depth than any of the others that I've previously mentioned.
You've got these aluminum sleeves that we're gonna mount inside your handle bar, and the
wires are gonna run internally to the bar. And that's what the fitter line is used for.
You're gonna push this through the bar, grab hold of the wire, and pull it back so you
can make your connections. You've got the switch that's gonna mount on your handlebar
accessory mount. You've got the template which gives you the guide hole in order to be able
to drill the holes so you can get the wires through the bar at the correct location.
Wire down your battery or a 12-volt accessory point, and supplied with this is everything
that you're gonna need to put heated grips on your motorcycle.
There's one thing that I would like to mention for every set of heated grips that I've talked
about today; the glue or epoxy is not provided. You need to make sure you have high-tense
silicone, some sort of glue with a high-temperature to withstand the heat that these options are
gonna create.
How about some installation tips?
I don't want to glue the bar on the outside of the bar, because I'm then gonna squish
the glue against the housing, and that's not necessarily a good idea. I'm gonna take my
grip glue, and I'm gonna run it a bead around the inside edge of this grip. What that's
gonna do it's gonna allow slide the grip on the bar to push the glue all the way down.
And there you've got the low down on heated grips.
Show Chrome Accessories with their super simple plug and play.
Hot Grips, with their super calmic version of heated grips,
and Heat Demons, providing you the option to put heat in any grip that you want.
Take a look at the length of the description where I installed the Show Chrome Accessory
Comfort Grips on a Harley-Davidson biker.
