Neil, well you're on the ELC football team, tell me what in your opinion makes a good team player?
A good team player is not selfish. A good team player must pass the ball.
Its no good trying to beat 2 or 3 players or trying to shoot from far out.
Also a good team player is not lazy. He's not unfit.
For example some footballers are lazy. Some are unfit.
They pass the ball and they stop running. They should run into space, look to receive
the ball, look to take the defender away from the person
with the ball. A good team player is never idle.
They know that what you do off the ball, is as important as what you do when you
have it. A good team player is also intelligent.
A good team player predicts what the other team will do.
Also a good team player is assertive and tries to grab opportunities
like if a defender is having trouble controlling the ball,
then a good team player will get in there and challenge hard.
Yes I see, and how can you apply these skills to academic studies?
Well, when students are working in teams, like on projects or classroom activities,
just like on the sports field, they mustn't be
selfish and try to do everything themselves. They have to share. On top of this,
if they finish their share of their work, they shouldn't stop,
they should help their teammates. They also need to be
intelligent to work out the best way to successfully finish their work.
They need to be assertive to get the resources they need and they need to be competitive
to try to be the best team. Finally they should play fair because at university,
the grades are not compared to others. Everyone can get an A if they work hard.
