There are so many different sizes available for the scale vehicle collector that it can
be a little daunting. Scales are used to designate the size of scale replica vehicle. They reference
the size of the vehicle compared to a life size car, truck, train, motorcycle, etc. For
instance a 1:50 scale vehicle is one 50th the size of the real vehicle. The smaller
the second number the closer to real life size, 1:1 scale. A 1:25 scale vehicle is twice
as big as a 1:50 scale vehicle of the same item.
I created a little something I call Understanding Scale Replica Vehicle Sizes to help clear
it up a little, there is a general guideline for railroad vs. scale replica vehicles. Scale
sizes and general comparisons such as; A vehicle that is 50’ long in real life
will be 1’ long if reproduced in 1:50th scale.
A vehicle that is 16’ long in real life will be 1’ long in 1:16th scale.
A vehicle that is 1:24th scale means it is 1:24th the size of the actual vehicle in real
