It's not often Auto Express gets to take part in a record attempt. But we joined Vauxhall
as they attempted to set 12 world and national speed records with a 2.0-litre diesel Astra.
Driving non-stop and flat-out at 130mph for 24hrs around a two-mile bowl at Milbert proving
ground in Bedfordshire, the completely standard Astras covered nearly 3,000 miles at an average
speed of 125mph. And subject to ratification from the FIA set a host of records. So congratulations
to Vauxhall and it was a privilege to be involved.
