Hello and welcome to SamsungMania.cz
We have now two smartphones Samsung Galaxy S III in our editorial office
which is ideal opportunity to try how services Android Beam and S Beam works
They are used for sharing files, while touching
and we are talking about pairing protocol and transfer protocol
Both (S Beam and Android Beam) has NFC as a pairing protocol, we need to put both devices back cover to back cover and we are offered to share data
File transfer itself has different metods
S Beam has Wi-Fi Direct (theoretical max speed 300Mbis per second)
S Beam is used to transfer large files, e.g. documents, music, video or images
On the other hand, there is Android Beam with pairing and transfer procotocol, both NFC
NFC has max speed of 400 kbis per sec, which is significantly less then S Beam
So it is used for transfering smaller files, e.g. URL, contacts, ...
Now I am going to try S Beam
On the SGS III on the left I have located video file in folder, I run it and pause ...
Needless to say, both phones must have S Beam option enabled, as you can see it is turned on here
So now I put both devices together back cover by back cover
Phone displays message "Touch to Beam" and let's look on the other device
We can see it's connecting and now video is transferring from one phone to the other
Testing video is about 2 GB, there is incoming transfer happening, measured speed will be added to the corresponding article (you can find it also below the video window)
As you can see, sharing is simple, for data transfer is used Wi-Fi direct and we will wait, until transfer is finished
Next, there is Android Beam service
It uses NFC, both for pairing and data transfer, I have turned it on on both devices
On the left device, there is shown contact, I "Touch to Beam"
And on the other side, there is a new contact
It is also save into phonebook
So this was S Beam and Android Beam demo
