DEBBIE: What CASA does, it stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, and what we do
is speak for kids in court.
LUCILLE: Texas CASA and Blue Cross Blue Shield actually have supported have supported these
5K runs for several years, and about two years ago they changed the theme to superheroes
and it's because all children need heroes, but abused children need superheroes.
DR. MCCOY: There's probably no greater cause then being a voice for a child and CASA is
one of those voices in Texas that helps empower people to speak up for children.
LUCILLE: It's important because it brings awareness to the fact that there are children
who have been abused and neglected and they need superheroes to stand up for them.
DR. MCCOY: We're a sponsor for CASA because that's really what we do. We reach out into
communities and help take care of people. For 80 years, in this state, we've reached out
and worked with communities to develop access to healthcare and speaking up for children
is one of the things that needs to happen.
DEBBIE: I'm grateful that as many people have shown up and our volunteers have worked really
hard, and I'm thankful for that. We do just about everything the system does. We speak
with the kids, we get involved with their life, we love on them, we are a support while they're
walking through a really hard time in their life, and we love every minute of it.
