Hi everyone, my name is midnight cross. Welcome back to my channel everyone in today's video
I'm going to be showing you how to take your OCS to the next level and
By that I mean not just your regular basic OCS in today's video
I want you guys to be able to make these amazingly detailed
OCS with these incredible backstories and in today's video. I'm going to give you some tips and tricks on how you can do it
The character I am drawing in the background of this video is not my own I see
This is actually a character for a Secret Santa event. I'm in on debian arts
And so this character is a character by honey
H0n II
- why I will put a link to their Deviantart page in the description
But their character is named candy
And so I thought she would be the perfect character to draw
First video and I thought since I had the footage for this I thought it'd be a good chance to use it in this video
And this character is so nice. So like why wouldn't I want to show it in this video?
Anyway, without further ado. Let's get onto the video how to take your o'seas to the next level
My straight up first tip to you
Which is something I see a lot with OCS and it's more of a side note really just to keep in mind
while I'm giving this tutorial
don't make your OC a Mary Sue or a Gary suit and Mary Sue is an idealized and a
Perfect character like a character with absolutely no flaws
They can do everything perfectly
And you won't find anyone in real life who is absolutely perfect and never makes mistakes
So this tip is just don't make your character someone who is perfect because everyone has their flaws
Instead when you are making NRC think about the world your character is in
So this tutorial is assuming that you already have a basic RC or you might be just thinking about creating an RC
One of the first tips that I like to think of when I make OCS is to think about the world. Your OSI is in
For example, your character might be in a regular world and go to school. That's fine
But think about if your character is in in an apocalyptic world
Your character would dress differently and act differently to survive in that sort of world
So that is something I want you to keep in mind when you are creating your character you think about that universe?
Also think about their backstory and who they were before
Another example going along the apocalypse theme is that maybe they lost their parents in the apocalypse and
Now they are super
Distrustful of anyone else just
Think about what happened before?
What were they like before they got to this place? What were they like when they were younger?
Think about all of these things and that will help make Yossi's much more realistic
Keep their age in mind as well and make sure they act their age
Depending on what sort of environment they're in again, like for example
If it weren't in an apocalyptic world your character
Even if they may be young it might have to act older than they are to adopt adapt with the new landscape
or
Think about the fact that they may be a certain age, but they act younger for some reason
Think about their personality, so give them good traits, but also think about flaws
so don't make all of their traits something simple like
kinds nice
helpful
Generous try and think of some more creative traits
You might have some bad traits and you might have some good traits
for example a good trait might be that there a
Well, I can't think of any good traits at the moment I didn't write examples a
floor might be that they are distrustful a
floor might be that they get angry really easily or they might get jealous really easily a
Good trait might be that they are
Welcoming and
Accepting
They might be a more accepting character who accepts other people's flaws because they have flaws themselves
Think about how their backstory could influence their current traits and good habits and bad habits
This is one of my biggest tips for making your OCS really realistic and deep characters
all of these things have to relate to each other because if you just give them a
Bad trait for some reason you have to think about why they have that trait why they might have this bad habit
Why they might like this thing, but dislike this other thing
As an example one of my other o'seas named Amelia
Grew up to dislike men because of the way her father treated her
you could also think of a silly reason to have a small phobia like a
Character who had an apple fall on her head is now scared of apples
think about things in their backstory their universe and
all of these kind of things because all of these little things all mixed together and make your character the character they are
Think about the type of creature your character is
Now a lot of my characters are human, but I have other characters who are creatures as well and when you do this
Make sure the universe they're in also suits this maybe you have multiple universes or realms to fit in each
different type of character
They might be a human or an alien or a vampire or a werewolf, whatever kind of creature you want
But if you make them a certain type of creature or
a certain type of mythical being make sure it fits in with your characters backstory and family and
That's really really important. Don't just make it something like
this character is an alien, but their parents are human and
Yes, something weird is going on there
Make it so it actually makes sense
maybe a certain type of storyline if you did want to make an alien character is that
If they didn't already have alien parents
Maybe you could make it that that aliens parents
Are humans on earth and they found like this egg with the alien character inside it?
I don't know but what I mean by this tip is just think about
who your character is and
whoever they are make sure it all fits in with the universe and
Who your character is and who your characters family is and the backstory?
We're making an OC I would suggest to give your character friends and family and
It's fine if they're an orphan, there are lots of orphan characters
But still make sure to think about the family that they had and what happened to them
They don't have to have friends either, but maybe someone they can trust
Or maybe someone they admire or they can open up to or they look up to
You don't have to create o'seas for them, too
but just think about them while you write the characters backstory and think about the
and other things
Another thing which I think is really commonly overlooked is giving the character a suitable name for the culture
And I can't really speak for myself because much of my RCS were made when I was like 13 and they all have these odd
Japanese names
but what I mean by this is don't give them an ultra long name unless it fits in with who they are if
They're from like a wealthy family. Then they probably would have a really really long name
But if they're not or if they're a character from maybe an alien planet, they might not even have a last name
Also think about this if you want them to be more realistic
Try and consider not giving them a Japanese name to a character who is from England for example
Unless they are originally from Japan
Give
give the proper type of name to the proper type of character and
that will make your characters a lot more deeper and a lot more realistic because
For example, you don't see anyone from like Australia with the name Sakura unless they're from Japan
Try and stay away from cliches. You see way too many characters these days following cliches
And so what you really want to do is make your characters unique
You see way too many characters who are soon there's early Andrei's
orderid areas or smart characters that were classes
childish characters that wear pink
Think about these cliches and try to make your characters unique
Don't just say okay. Well, they've got a yandere personality. Maybe they do have a Aundre
personality traits
But don't straight up calling me Andre try and think of some things that can make them unique
For example, if you do like the Andre personality
You could make a sort of a Andre character that has a childish side or a character that wears glasses
for other reasons rather and
Being actually smart. Maybe they think it looked makes them look smart or
Maybe it helps them to fit in
Or maybe the glasses are some kind of magical portal where they can see ghosts and things for their glasses
Try and put your own sort of unique twist onto these cliches and that is when you'll be able to create this really
awesome and unique character
Don't make your character too similar to an already created character from some popular series
For example, you might make a wizard character who wears glasses and discovers. He's a wizard and goes to a magic school
Does that sound familiar?
or you could make a magical girl that goes around fighting evil in the town if
You feel like your character is too similar to an already cunning character then do something to make your character special
This is similar to the Mary Sue tip I gave at the beginning of this video, but don't make your character a god unless
There is an actual reason for that character being a god
because in a roleplay battle if you plan on doing role plays with this character or even if you don't
You want both sides to fight equally you don't want to make your character
So powerful that they can destroy something in a single blow
One punch man. Does it in a good way because even though Saitama can defeat people in one punch the world he is in is
Exaggerated and he trained really hard to get where he was
See what I mean about universe
Even though Saitama is super strong and he can defeat people in one punch
his whole universe is also very exaggerated and there are a lot of
exaggerated monsters and villains
Don't make your character suddenly super powerful but not have any reason for it
Make sure your character has some weaknesses as well as being ultra powerful if you plan on making a powerful character
If you need some help there are plenty of OC sheets on Debian arts that ask questions to help you flush out your ACS
You can write down answers to the questions and it should help you add more realism to your SES
In this video
I talked about how to add realism to your characters and how to take them to the next level
But one thing I should also mention is the design of your characters
Make sure when you're designing them that they fit in the universe that you have created for your OC
Make sure that the clothes they wear fit with their age and their personalities
For example if your character is a tough sort of character
It's unlikely that they'd be wearing cutesy sort of clothes unless they had a certain reason for wearing that kind of clothes
In an apocalyptic world, maybe your character would be wearing things that would help them. Say Steve
Like carrying ropes carrying knives or things like that
It's just some thoughts
But I want you to take these tips and think about them with your own o'seas so that you can create your very own
OCS and take them to the next level
think about what you can do to make your characters really unique and make them stand out from the crowd and
That is when your OCS will really shine
So thank you so much for watching my video today everyone. I really hope it helped you and you enjoyed it
I'd love to see your OC
So please show them to me in the comments and please let me know if this video helped you everyone
I really really hope it in
So again, thank you so much for watching my video today, and I will see you in the next video. Bye
