Hi, my name is Benny Greb. I am a drummer and composer and my band is called MovingParts.
I got to know 2 fantastic musicians on tour in England and despite our long-distance relationship things are flowing well.
On the one hand I feel I have arrived but I also have a restless urge to write more / play more / try things out...
Kit Downes on keyboard and Chris Montague on guitar - they play like demons and we're real good friends.
Like me, they feel entirely at home in the jazz world yet don't turn their nose up at pop music.
We like Aphex Twin as much as The Police or Miles Davis -- not forgetting Star Trek...
The nerd factor that unites the band!
Up until now, I've been moving in two different worlds.
In one I was a sideman, working as a drummer in the studio among others with Thomas D.,
playing on jazz festivals with Nils Wülker or Blue Touch Paper,
touring with Stoppok and doing studio recordings with various artists.
The other world is the drummer scene.
People who don't know about it would never imagine how many big drum festivals there are worldwide, and how many drum fans...
To be honest, I didn't know either!
I first became aware of the scale of things when I played at the MontrealDrumFest and then went on a sold-out tour through Canada.
That was my first time in Canada!
Later, over 2,000 people came to my first performance in China - all drummers who had seen me on youtube.
Then followed tours in Europe / USA / UK / Africa / New Zealand/ even Siberia!
I have developed signature instruments, written a drumming book and published a DVD.
There have also been cover stories in several specialised magazines.
I totally enjoy it! -- Particularly the double life aspect.
In parallel, i have been constantly writing and producing music.
Over the years I have published 3 albums under my own name -- more like sideline studio projects.
Then after the birth of my son I started focussing more on the important things and felt the need to create a permanent home for my ideas...
To give them the attention they deserve -- a band of my own that tours and develops and inspires me to write.
Our gigs go down really well!
What makes me immensely happy is seeing drum nerds along with their friends in the audience, wide grins on their faces...
everything has come full circle and that's what I wanted...
...to connect these two different worlds!
I'm looking forward to all that's still to come!
