Welcome to OptionRally Academy, I'm Amy Anderson with the Term of the week.
This week we are going to talk about Advance Retail Sales.
Advance Retail Sales is the monthly measure of total sales in of goods at all retail outlets.
Essentially retail sales are determined by accumulating all sale receipts, in nominal
dollars from select retailers throughout the month with the exception of certain transactions
such as taxes, sale returns and other financial changes.
So why is that important to you as a trader? Because consumer spending makes up nearly
a third of all economic activity in the US, Advanced Retail Sales are an essential measure
to understand the progress and volatility of consumer activity in the retail market.
It moves the market on release, mainly because of the importance of consumer spending to
the US economy.
Thanks for joining us for the term of the week, join me for a new term every week.
