Looking back from the moment I arrived in Madrid
I came with the illusion to contribute to an era in this club, to be important
and to do things that will hold a place in my heart; the life of Atletico fans and the goal was to win titles.
So, seeing the goals achieved I think it was very positive
in a league that is very competitive and it is very hard to be champion.
What we have achieved in these two seasons is a dream and an unforgettable and I think so far the two best years of my career.
The first title was in Bucharest was a challenge to defend a title I won the previous year
and it was a challenge to prove to myself...not only to prove but to strengthen the ambition, the desire to keep winning
to stick around, that I was not satisfied with having won the previous year. I wanted to win the title, as well as being the top scorer of the tournament and, if possible, score important goals in that final.
And it was so. I reafirmed that ambition to continue winning titles.
The Super Cup was David versus Goliath challenge.
We were not the favourites and we went there convinced that we could win; we gave a great display of football, very decisive.
The night was a dream for me scoring a hat trick in the first half
so that is another joy that marked me very much.
With the history of many years without being able to overcome them (Real Madrid) and then to beat them and in a final (Kings cup), a tournament where the loser got nothing...
We had a great opportunity to change that story, win a title and more so in their stadium.
This is something that no one at Atletico will forget; it will be spoken about from generation to generation.
Neptune is a very symbolic celebration, which really identifies to the club.
because almost nowhere is there this tradition of going to a specific place and decorating the monument with the team colours.
It is something that identifies Atletico and is a wonderful experience and something that you can enjoy with all the fans and the thousands of people who came to the three celebrations.
Madrid when it’s red and white looks more colourful and prettier.
Mainly I’d like to thank Miguel Angel Gil and Enrique Cerezo.
They decided to go for me at a time when people knew me but they were not 100% convinced of my abilities or what I could give Atletico Madrid.
It was a gamble on their part and that went very well, everything went very well.
So for me it was a very big vote of confidence and I will be forever grateful.
I would also like to say to the coaching staff and players that it was an honour, an honour to share the dressing room with them, with each of those who passed through the club.
I will be following and supporting from afar and I hope they continue to do very well.
To all the Atletico fans, I can only thank them.
No words describe all the support and love I received.
From today I will be one of those supporting Atletico from the outside. Thank you very much.
