Vlog // The Making of - What you came for

How's it going friends, thanks for swinging by and checking out this "Making Of" episode for our original song "What You Came For". We had a blast putting this one together and as we stated in the episode blog, this song had been a long time coming for us. We spent this session in the Nest rehearsing to dial in this song because this was really the first time we actually practiced this tune. Paul had written the song a few months prior to filming and with our busy schedule at the time we never got around to working with it. So the footage you see here of us hashing things out was really the first time we put an effort into working our parts out together. I believe we had to do a couple takes on this one too. The first take didn't seem strong enough so we decided to try a second. During that second take around the first chorus I realized we forgot to turn the bubble machine back on so we had to cut and restart lol. So this final take is really 2 1/2. As for the bubble machine, that was Paul's idea. After editing the footage I thought it looked pretty cool to have bubbles floating around the room on this one. There's a few shots where you can see bubbles float right by the camera that's hanging above Paul and the GoPro that's on his bass head stock. Turned out pretty cool I think. There you have it, our making of episode for our original song "What You Came For". This is definitely one of our favorites and we'll most likely be including it in our shows from here on. - What's good people, how's it going? Mike, Rock Bottom Brothers. Tonight we are here at the nest and we are gonna be working on a new song called This Is What You Came For or for short, What You Came For. You might have heard it. I kinda like fly music in for interludes and stuff on some of our videos so there may have been a time where you heard a scratch take of this song somewhere. But this is one song that we kinda had to put on the burner for a little while 'cause we got busy with playing shows and getting ready for other things. But we finally got time to rock this song and we're really pumped about it because it's really... I dig it, it's one of my favorite songs that Paul's written. It's gonna be Paul on the talk box again, it's just the two of us. It's got funk. It's got a little bit of tracks. So what I did is, the original version, Paul sent over his bass and his idea of it, and I went ahead and created a keyboard part, a kind of organ part for it, and a couple extra spicy things, just kinda spice it in there to add a little bit extra. Since we're only a two-person band it's great to add stuff to our tracks because we get to be creative. We get to be creative with organs and horns and orchestra stuff, I love doing that stuff. And this track specifically has Paul's original idea on bass, talk box, and then some tracks that I added to it. That's what's going down tonight, What You Came For. I'm gonna get Paul to give you some background information on this 'cause we always try to give some background information on our songs, and have him give you guys a rundown of what this song's about or what inspired it. That's what's going down tonight people. Stick around. - As typically with most of the tunes there's no ideas behind them per say. I happen to be working on another song, oddly enough before our first gig. You know, this jam came out. I was just trying to think of some jams and this riff had come out and then it just started going from there, you know. And usually with the talk box riffs I'm trying to get words that fit the talk box riff. But that's about it. Yeah, this one's been around for a while, so there are some semi-autobiographical lyrics. You always try to make it like you're way cooler than you really are in this type of stuff, so this is like one of those, man. And shout-out to Flint, there's some Flint things in here. That's it. - We're gonna go ahead and rehearse the song, as usual we do the rehearsals. Work out the kinks. Work on the ins and outs of it and then hopefully film it. How many takes was that? - That was the first take actually, that we just did. - That was the first take, right, that was the first take. - That was it, man. - We nailed it on the first try. - One time, Sinatra'd it. I'm feeling good about it, it's a nice jam. Something I'm excited about, I've excited myself, hopefully I've excited Mike, and hopefully I've excited all of you out there. - And we're gonna be recording this one hopefully and playing it on shows live so look for it when we do it. - Yeah, yeah, this one will make the record for sure. - All right friends and neighbors.
