That is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Paul Merson. Fellaini has been much-maligned during his time at Manchester United, with many claiming he is not the right profile of player for the Red Devils
However, he has become a key part of Jose Mourinho’s side and has played a part in all six games so far this season
The Belgian was named in the starting XI for the visit of Wolves this afternoon, as United look to make it four wins in a row in all competitions
Merson does not think Fellaini gets the credit he deserves for his performances at Manchester United
And the pundit says Fellaini is vital for the sometimes susceptible United centre-back pairing
“He’s a clever player,” Merson said. “I think he doesn’t get as much credit (that he deserves)
“He always gets in the right position, he knows where to stand. “You never see Mourinho shouting on the bench ‘get there, stand there’
“He tells him his job and he never falls asleep. “There’s never a goal kick and the centre-forward wins the ball and he’s not there
“He always gets into that position before the goal kicks. “He’s a dream for a centre-half
He’s a dream for your centre-halves because he does get back in and protect you and they need it
“They do need protecting if I am being honest.”
