Some 200 parents gathered at Dataran Petaling Jaya
to sign the Parents' Charter seeking the reinstatement of PPSMI,
the Malay acronym for the teaching of Science and Mathematics in the English Language.
Many of them have come from as far as Penang, Melaka, Johore and Sabah
and have pledge to form a Coalition called Association of Parents
for Reforming Education (ASPIRE) to engage and pressure
the government into reinstating PPSMI.
Today we are standing here telling the Prime Minister
telling the Minister of Education, the government
the Ministers, the Politicians, decision makers that
we want you to engage the Parents Group
in education transformation for this country.
which will also include the reinstatement of PPSMI
Do you think they hear us ?
Ok, we say it once again, loud and clear
so that they have no doubt as to what we want
We want parents engagement we want education transformation
and we want reinstatement of PPSMI
thank you very much for your support
We spoke to some concerned parents
why they are out of their comfort zone
to be at this morning’s gathering.
I am actually fighting for my grand children,
although my daughter is not even married yet.
So, it says alot about it, right because
I am actually fighting for the future and I am
fighting for my sibling's grandchildren as well
because all their children are also all already
grown up and working
I am trying to keep the destiny of the country because
it is not going anywhere, it is going downwards actually
For the country, I am not doing this only for my daughter
even if I don't have a daughter I will still be here
because I want to fight for Maths and Science in English
if Malaysia wants to go forward, I am not just thinking
for myself. I am thinking for the country as a whole too
I am from Melaka and a group of in a bus came
this morning, so we left about 7am so now
we are here and so want to fight Maths and Science in English
so please listen, Minister especially education Minister, please listen
to the Rakyat
