>> The all-new fourth generation Honda City has just been unveiled in New Delhi and at
first glance it looks pretty similar to the earlier car. Look closely and you’ll see
it’s actually an all-new car. The size is the same, but the space inside has increased
considerably, thanks to a longer wheelbase. Here’s a quick look at what all is new with
this car. Up front, you get twin-beam headlamps and a thick chrome slat for the grille. In
profile, the car looks quite like the earlier generation city and it’s hard to spot the
difference. The top-end variant has 15-inch alloys with 175/65 R15 tyres.
At the rear, the tail-lamps now get sleeker and wrap onto the boot lid, with that portion
housing rear fog lamps and reverse lamps. The boot space is about the same at just over
500 litres. What’s really different, is that the Honda
City now comes in a diesel variant as well, powered by the same 1.5 litreidtec diesel
engine that powers the Honda Amaze. Honda didn’t say if the power specs have been
changed though. It’s when you step inside, that you really
feel the difference. The wheelbase has gone up by 50mm to 2600 mm and that liberates nearly
60 mm more legroom. Seats themselves are pretty comfortable with good all-round support.
And the car is loaded with features – it gets a sunroof, keyless entry with push-button
ignition, a touch-screen climate control panel with rear AC vents. It also gets four 12 volt
power sockets. The Bluetooth integrated music system also houses the display for a reverse
camera, while the steering has the audio, phone and cruise control buttons on it.
Overall, the car has grown in size internally, while retaining its external dimensions. It
feels a lot more upmarket, and should be fairly well accepted by buyers looking for space
and fuel economy, along with that fun to drive element that Honda’s are known for.
