The hardest part about calculating your business carbon footprint is the stuff that goes beyond our control. So the things like supply chain, sourcing, materials and really that leads us to the vendors and our suppliers. It is much better if we work with suppliers and vendors that are already disclosing their carbon emissions. So if you're not tracking what your carbon emissions are, you don't know how to reduce them. Companies need to determine their carbon emissions so that they can ensure that they're part of the solution, not part of the problem and not incidentally, if they reduce their carbon emissions they will reduce their energy use, which saves them money.

We've had a customer recently use our Paper Trail to help them quantify the carbon emissions related to their paper use from us. And they reported that in their annual sustainability report. Domtar has introduced another tool called Pixel and print logic, which is an infographic based on that decision, should I print or should I leave something on screen? It guides them through a path of what's the most responsible decision to make. This helps them improve their sustainability metrics over time.
