Boeing thought it had discovered the problem that caused the company to ground all 50 of
its 787 Dreamliners, but now, it\'92s back to the drawing board. Engineers investigated
the battery of the plane after one overheated in Boston earlier this month. But now,{\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK
"http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21230940"}}{\fldrslt \cf3 \ul a BBC contributor explains}} why
the battery was ruled out as the root of the planes\'92 issues.
\f1 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\b \'93It is a new type of battery, it
has been used in other applications, but not in airliners. So one concern was that it was
the source of the problem. That seems to have been eliminated and thats a step forward,
but not a resolution.\'94 \f1\b0 \uc0舲 舲
\f0 Now Boeing is investigating the electrical system that monitors battery voltage, charging
and temperature. The case has already caused more than 80,000 people to have their flights
cancelled. \f1 \uc0舲 舲
\f0 The question now being asked?\'a0 Should these planes have been up in the sky in the
first place?\'a0 {\field{\*\fldinst{HYPERLINK "http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/28/us-boeing-dreamliner-japan-idUSBRE90R05C20130128"}}{\fldrslt
\cf3 \ul \ulc3 Reuters reported Monday}} the Japanese government lowered safety standards
and fast-tracked the 787 Dreamliner\'92s debut in order to support Japanese firms involved
in the jets\'92 manufacture and use. \f1 \uc0舲 舲
\f0 There\'92s no evidence to say the lower standards allowed problems to slip through
the air-worthiness process, but a BBC contributor says its not out of the question either.
\f1 \uc0舲 舲 \f0\b \'93Perhaps this easing of safety regulations
have gone too far is.\'a0 This a brand new aircraft in many ways. It's not just a brand
new marker that's rather the systems on board.\'94 \f1\b0 \uc0舲 舲
\f0 Boeing continues to investigate the source of the problems, which has slowed delivery
of the more than 800 orders already placed for the Dreamliner.\'a0 The price tag for
each Dreamliner -- $200 milion.\ }
