My daughter Tara was born in 2007
and she was a happy, healthy, ball of fun
until in August 2009, she was discovered
to have a tennis ball sized Brian Tumour and was rushed to hospital
to have an operation that saved her life. This began a long and difficult journey
for the family
where we have had to cope with the realities of a disease
that is the number one childhood cancer killer in the UK.
I'm here today to talk to you about a book I have written.
It is based on a blog that I have kept that journals all that has happened
and which is available to read at
www.tarastale.org
The book tells the story of the effects Tara's condition has had on me, on Tara's elder sister Kyra
and on Tara herself. It talks about some of the science
of the disease and the available treatments too.
I'm hoping to raise money through Kickstarter to get the book
professionally edited, produced as an audiobook
and as an eBook too, as well as an A5 hard copy.
It will also help fund marketing
and sales.
If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in, then please see more details on my
Kickstarter Project Page (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/174104734/1961664101?token=8b3e4bb4)
I feel it's important that I tell Tara's tale, because the profile of her disease must be raised.
Only then will funding increase and better treatments will emerge.
Perhaps then more stories like mine
will have a happy ending. Thanks for listening.
