I'm due February 26th
Yeah, so I'm in the last trimester.
I'll try not to sniffle.
I live very close to campus, I live in Chino Hills which is only 7 miles from Cal Poly Pomona
Well, let's see, I enjoy cycling
my claim to fame is that I did the AIDS lifecycle bike ride
from San Francisco to Los Angeles in 2007
so my husband and I raised six thousand dollars for
the L.A. Gay, Lesbian center in Los Angeles.
No, actually we are high school sweethearts.
But I think he followed me to Cal State Fullerton.
[laughter]
With graduate school I've been reading again.
I've read, for pleasure, probably four books since I graduated in May,
so that's been nice.
Cal Poly Pomona was very much the neighborhood university when I was growing up
and so when I came to work here
it had been a big part of my family already at that point.
I am the Director of Communications and External Relations for the Collins College of Hospitality Management.
I think I had hospitality hobbies before I had the job, you know,
I mean, who doesn't like eating out and going to wineries and traveling
My undergraduate experience was really, really useful to starting my career.
It gave me the tools that I needed to navigate the world at a young age
and I appreciate that.
A lot of members of my family are made in the CSU,
both my parents wen to Cal Poly Pomona,
my mom studied social work, my dad was a structural engineer student
and both are still working in their fields.
My brother started at Cal Poly Pomona
but graduated from Cal State Sacramento with a degree in chemistry
and he works for the state, he works for the California Air Resources Board,
and his wife, my oldest friend, studied child development at Cal State Sacramento
and she is a teacher.
An inexpensive education, doesn't mean it's not valuable.
We're the largest and oldest hospitality management program in the state of California.
If you were to
go out of state at a comparable sized hospitality management program
you would be paying double, if not more
and so, for a very reasonable price,
you can get a first class education
what's wonderful about working with alumni
is the ones that I work with are proud Cal Poly Pomona graduates
and many of them are working in their fields,
applying what they learned in the classroom as students
A lot of alumni, come back and volunteer, give us their time, mentor students,
because they benefited so much as a student once themselves.
Something I highly respect about the CSU is its accessibility
and through accessibility
you're able to reach lots of different types of people so,
it's highly reflective of the diversity of the state
because we're accessible to all people in the state of California.
And so the diversity of the educated workforce that's being created from the CSU,
is going out into the California economy, and making an impact.
Every dollar invested in the CSU is an investment in the future of California.
I'm having a girl, and her name is going to be Audrey,
and yeah, she'll probably go to the CSU too 'cause
[laughter]
I'm Lisa McPheron, and I am made in the CSU.
