Hi. My name’s Manuel Garcia. I’m the oldest of 9 brothers.
I come from a very humble family. I love my parents and brothers.
Each of them has supported me in every step of the way.
My parents couldn’t give me the education that they wanted to. I was awarded a scholarship in school
and in order to keep that scholarship I lived alone since I was 14, while my father took a job in another town.
Perhaps the most difficult situation was after the 2007 earthquake in my country.
We were very close to the epicenter, the city of Chincha. We lost our house, we lost almost everything.
But the most important thing for me: my family, they were OK.
However, the city where I grew up was literally destroyed.
By then I had some savings, but my family came first, their welfare was first and I had to start over.
I was studying in a program in a University before CIBERTEC.
But I couldn’t finance the expenses of University; the money that I earned was not enough
and I had to leave the program for economic reasons, even though I had the best grades.
After some time, I'm working and paying for my studies again,
and I'm still fighting for my dreams and getting the best results in CIBERTEC, where I have an average grade of 18.2 out of 20.
Therefore, more determined than ever, I am studying and being the best in my area.
Although work and my schedule can be quite hard, I keep showing by my results… that I want to be the best.
Among other things I'd like to tell you some things about myself
I like to play guitar; my guitar has been a close friend since I was 14.
I love to write and read. My favorite author is J. R. R. Tolkien,
and my favorite book is The SILMARILLION.
I like programming on weekends. I am currently focused on PHP program.
A historical figure who has I admire is the Indian mathematician Ramanujan.
While I was writing my essay, I remembered the letter he wrote to the English mathematician, Hardy,
also asking for an opportunity.
In my personal development, wining the scholarship would enrich my perspective of the world and Brazilian culture,
and help me to fulfill my desire to form an NGO in education and be the leader of a group of volunteers in Chincha, my hometown.
In my professional development, this would mean an opportunity for professional growth,
and to test my academic preparation and to learn from the cutting edge technology in Brazil,
which is the leader in South America.
If I win the scholarship, this will be my chance to show that I can be even better.
I know that I can put in all my effort to be the best and dedicate each achievement
to my benefactors, my family, my friends and the land where I grew up.
