Time to Part Ways with These Fantasy Baseball Names

BRANDON FUNSTON: This is Brandon Funston, Yahoo Sports, looking at a couple guys that I'm losing faith in, in fantasy baseball leagues. Let's start with Carlos Gomez. I don't own this guy, I didn't like his price on draft day, which was right around the top 50 overall. But I have to admit the guy's been very good over the last few years, he's been a regular 20/40 type of guy. You like the power, you'll definitely like the speed. We're not seeing a whole lot of that anymore since he's been traded to Houston. We're talking about a guy who hit 30 years old last year after he went to Houston, stopped hitting for power. And in fact, does not have a home run this year. You look at what he's done with the Astros and 55 games, just four home runs. You look at his last 29 stolen base attempts, he's been thrown out 10 times. So it looks like he's being less effective on the bases-- stealing bases, as well. So hitting around the Mendoza line right now, I'm not saying he is an outright drop, especially if you paid around that top 50 price overall. But he's a guy I'd definitely be dangling to see if I can get something like $0.50 on the dollar for him. And maybe a little further down the road, with this kind of production, you're going to have to kick him to the curb. Another guy that I think it's completely valid if you want to cut him right now, is second baseman for the Cardinals, Kolten Wong. Among guys in the majors right now that have had at least 50 plate appearances, he is the only guy without an extra base yet. There's virtually been no power to him. Not running a ton, batting average hasn't been good, he's a complete non-factor against lefties. So there's a platoon worry there as well. I look at guys like Brandon Phillips, Joe Panik for the Giants, guys producing well above him at the second base position. Their own, in well less amount of Yahoo league. So you look at Kolten Wong, still owned in 70% of Yahoo leagues, you got Philips, you got Panik around 50%. I'd cut Wong for either one of those guys, so if that's available to you, go out and do that. Not loving on Kolten Wong.
