-If you're convicted, it's a wobbler,
which means it could be filed as either a misdemeanor
or a felony.
As a misdemeanor, it carries up to one year in county jail.
As a felony, it carries up to three years in state prison.
Moreover, you'll lose your gun rights.
So if you convicted as a felony, it's
a lifetime ban on gun rights.
If you're convicted of this as a misdemeanor,
then it's a 10-year ban on owning, using,
or possessing a gun.
And moreover, it would give you a criminal record.
And prospective employers really don't
like to see convictions for firing a gun.
Because it makes them suspect that the applicant
is dangerous, that they would create
a hazard in the workplace.
And so it's very easy to passover job applicants
in that situation.
Therefore, to the extent that you're charged with this crime
now, you want to do everything that you
can to keep it off your record.
And that's really where we come in.
