My name is Vanessa Bishop.
I'm a certified florist.
I was certified with the Canadian Institute of Floral Design.
I've actually been in the industry, working in the industry for 20 years.
I finally decided, you know what, I love flowers so much I need flowers in my life. I have to do this.
So that's why that Flowers Inspire is created.
Little Florist is a program for children and families. We create birthday parties to show children
what it's like to be little florists.
I am ready to go.
The whole process begins by we simply come to your house
with a flower delivery for the special birthday person.
And a big box arrives to your house
and we go through the box together with
the child who's having birthday and the people who are attending the party.
(Children singing Happy Birthday)
1, 2, 3! Oh my goodness, paper! What are we gonna do with all this paper?
We could make something out of it!
We could make something out of it.
We go through all the flowers and we identify what they are, so for example, a Daisy's not just a Daisy.
It's actually called a chrysanthemum, it has a real name.
We have flowers.
Anybody know what these flowers are called?
Does the birthday girl knows what these flowers are called?
Daisy?
These are daisies.
Do you want to smell the Daisies?
Don't they smell nice?
Little Florist offers three types of programs to children having birthday party.
So, who wants to be a florist today?
Who wants to learn how to be a florist?
Me!
You wanna be...great! So we have three types of florist that we have today.
We're gonna have mini florist, junior florist and senior florist.
So, if you are three or four, put your hand up. Miles and Erika, are you three and four?
So you're gonna be, Erika, put your hand up. You're gonna be a mini florist.
Now if you are five and six, put your hand up. Those are my junior florists.
And if you are seven and eight put your hand up.
Those are my senior florists. So we're all gonna get together in little groups
today and make our own flower arrangement.
Now these names actually thought of because
if you're working in a flower shop
you actually have junior and senior designers.
So I wanted to reflect everything that actually happens in a flower shop.
Pass it around. Keep passing it around.
No, the whole pick, the whole stem.
Pass the whole stem.
Miles, you wanna give that to Erika?
That's yours.
Here we go.
Thank you.
And I get one, too.
I get my own flower
Are we ready to get started?
Yeah!
And we learn about how to care for the flowers so, how to remove the stems, how to cut it properly, and
how to put it in water. So we learn about them. Their colors, and how all the stems
are different. Some stems are round and rough and some are *** and some have tons of leaves.
and some are short, some are long. So, it's about examining each flower,
taking the time to literally connect with the flowers that they have in front of them.
It sounds like paper. Put that to your ear. I know. Yeah, so these actually,
you know what. It sound like tissue paper
You know these are fresh flowers? Status can actually be a really be nice dry flower
I only have one side piece.
That's fine.
So this is called a pink carnation. Can you smell it?
Oh, it smells nice.
They smell like Bug poo.
Bug poo! What's that smell?
We also explain how to do simple floral designs.
Simple floral designs like in a vase or how to do a cut flower bouquet
and then we end the process with wrapping up the package
and then they can take that package home.
We actually have a great learning experience,
floral adventure, where they learn how to be a florist in that time they're at the birthday party
and they get to go home and show their parents what they did.
That's what Flowers Inspire is all about.
It's connecting through flowers with people and to have little things inspire them or excite them.
And tie it around
Like this?
Beautiful!
So, when it comes to Little Florists,
seeing the children connect with the flowers, seeing them excited about flowers.
Even though it sounds like a very simple concept,
I think every child should have the opportunity to have a Little Florist birthday party
because it's about learning, it's about flowers, it's about nature.
Flowers represent life. We all need a little bit of life in our lives. We all need a little bit of brightness.
We need to take the time to stop and to smell the flowers and to look at the colors and
to feel the flowers, it's all really important especially in the time today where things
are fast and no one has time for anything. Little Florist birthday parties will actually,
you know, give you a moment to stop and do something fun and connect with nature and connect with
your friends and learn a different art form.
That's what little flowers birthday party is all about,
that's what the whole company is about.
is connecting with nature,
with people through flowers and taking the time to be present in the moment.
I'm a little florist.
