You can see on my videos from another channel that I play by fingers mostly
And my prevailing bass technique is 2-finger
In my previous video I explained why 2-finger apoyando made me better player, watch it
Most of music is built on rhythms divisible by 2: 4/4, 6/8...
So when you're playing by 2 fingers, your brain's not getting lost
It tries to hold the rhythm, because 2 (fingers) is divisible by 2
That's 4/4.And here's 3/4 (or 6/8)
So it's also convenient to play rhythms divisible by 3 this way, then just accents changes between fingers
Muting strings is better with apoyando
Most of metal could be played by 2 fingers. Straight doubling of guitar is not obligatory
What Cliff did in the case of guitar playing tremolo – he mixed 8th and gallops
'Fight Fire With Fire', for example
So that's his solution. 'Whiplash', over tremolo
You don't have to mindlessly double guitar. The mission of bassist is to keep a groove, be a go-between drums and guitars
3-finger technique. I use it too, but for fast gallops mostly
Slow gallops I play by 2 fingers for more control
Plus 3 fingers for fast triplet tremolo
So it applies in addition to 2-finger technique
Arpegio tirando
I like to perform arpegio by 3 fingers
Robert Trujillo plays 'My Friend of Misery' by one finger
And here's a piece from 'Anesthesia'
You can play fast arpegio this way like flamenco
I like playing chords. Some bassists play them to enhance guitars
I play chords by strumming, another favorite technique
I do it by 2 fingers pressed together for more solidity
I'm fond of playing harmonics. There're a lot of kinds of them - natural...
Natural harmonics get by touching a string over some fret in the moment you play
You'd be told that there're natural harmonics on determined frets only like 5, 7, 12
Actually, they are over all fretboard. For instance, there're 2 harmonics on 4th fret, and 3 over 3rd
Dimebag used that often
I get artificial harmonics by tweaking
You can get plenty of different pitches harmonics holding only one fret
Practicing you learn where they're hiding. Here's an octave
I performed artificial harmonics a lot in my early videos 'Guitar solos on bass'
As well as natural ones
The last bass technique I'd like to mention is tapping
But I can't play it in usual way because of nails
They don't let me hold the ankle needed to tap properly
So I (let's call it forced tapping) press middle finger on index one to get the vector
That's a combination of arpegio and tapping
So I can't play two-hand tapping fully because of nails
About slap. I suck at slap
Maybe I'll learn it in future, but now my priority is picking
I desire to play whole Metallica, and Jason used a pick. So I'm learning this technique
If you want to see slap, there's a lot of channels about it
My niche is classic finger-style
I have the intention to make a video about very bass technique mentioned
Write in comments questions you have, I'll try to help you
