possibility
of life existed on mars
now up
that's a bit misleading and makes it sound like some new study has been
performed
this or senior beyond she r_d_
and his team uh... have done is looked at small data from the nineteen seventy
six biking mission to mars puts the an unmanned mission uh...
which tested soil samples of ours i'd
perform certain uh...
scientific experiments on them
and looked at the reactions uh...
and they were certain
datians admissions of uh... c_o_ two variety
and uh...
it was
positive that
from those reactions initially but
there was no life in the soil of mars and they've they were entirely physical
in their response
that is to say not to personal uh... a biological agent
now
what uh... senor beyond shared a found uh...
is that
those reactions were perhaps too complex to be merely the result of uh... a
physical or geological reaction
uh... and
the evidence he has not just limited to his own
prion houses of the data but the fact that so far no one's actually provided
uh... geological
reason
forth the reaction we got from the martian soil
so in all that time we've had access of these results and we haven't really
found
a sufficient explanation
for them that would discount the possibility of life
uh... another important it is the fact that our definition of life has really
changed
initially was thought that while
that's what it was to uh... if if there were any organisms there'd be so far
beneath us a little bit wouldn't have access to the sign and therefore they
couldn't possibly have survived even though we have these big signs that
there might be something there
uh... in the last decade we found that even offer
their organisms that are capable of surviving
in the food chain with no access to the sun whatsoever uh... originally
we would assume that
uh... plants
receive light from the sun animals eat plants and
and bigger animals eat those animals and so forth the food chain we all know that
but we found that there are teas underwater vents which spew this noxious
deaths are and they're actually small microbes that
derive nutrients from scams
i guess that would kill anything else on her these microbes are somehow thriving
awful
and what happens is or
utilities go systems develop around these microbes
so you've got these creatures that and with
baker when sick man and you've got this whole food chain
that is not derive from access to the sign
so
this martian soil we had
which shows possible signs of life man now
it's heated up
may actually have some kind of
biological creature we don't even understand that we may not
classified as life
or we may not have before class ex-wife
nonetheless maybe et they need the martian micros
i think this is one of the most exciting
re analyses of data i've seen in awhile
and it's even best evidence i've seen so far for another mission to mars even
others
millions of other reasons to go to mars aside from that but the fact that there
might be life there
life we've never even
tramped up before
i think that's a pretty good reason to go to mars uh...
i know now says scott that budget crisis and i
governments a little more interested in uh...
tax cuts for the rich
bombing rockin whatever uh...
maybe going to mars and buying a new form of life might be a better use for
those funds
just a suggestion
