Hello there, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing, and today is
Action Wednesday where you get to have fun implementing your marketing action plan. I
have a fun little idea for you today. I want to thank you again for tuning in. Please visit
our sites to like us, to re-tweet us, to share and to comment because that helps me improve
my video tips to you every day.
What is a Hallmark campaign? Think about a Hallmark store. They have cards that are constantly
changing related to dates and activities on the calendar. It could be Valentine’s Day,
or St. Patrick’s Day, or Easter. They’re always changing their products. People and
communities like to celebrate together centered around those dates so why not take advantage
of that from a marketing perspective?
Take a look at St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago. They embrace it by turning the river green.
Then also when it becomes Super Bowl time, somebody like Best Buy, what are they doing?
They are promoting their flat screen so that you will come in, buy their flat screen, and
then invite 50 people to your home to celebrate the Super Bowl. And also Valentine’s Day.
A restaurant will create an intimate dinner centered on the Valentine’s theme.
That’s what I want you to begin thinking about. How can you create marketing promotions
for your business that relate to events on the calendar?
How can you embrace the Hallmark marketing campaign? What you want to do is think about
what’s coming up, whether it be St. Patrick’s Day or Valentines or Christmas or the Super
Bowl and think what is a good fit for your customers. What would they like? And take
the time to create a promotional campaign centered on that particular date on the calendar.
Get your customers to experience it, see how they enjoy it, get their feedback and reactions
and then create the next one.
What you’re going to do is create anticipation by your customers for you next Hallmark marketing
moment. And then what will happen, if it becomes a lot of fun and they really embrace it, you’ll
be able to repeat it every year just like Hallmark does with its cards.
That our Action Wednesday. Do your best to join us tomorrow for Recon Thursday. If you
