Hi, I'm Judy Carrier with Jewels by Park Lane, and I'm here to talk to you about antique
jewelry. What is antique jewelry? It's not just the pieces that are in your grandmother's
jewelry box, although it could be if she inherited it from her grandmother. Antique jewelry is
any piece that is 100 years old or more. We often use it to mean pieces that are made
in a distinctive manner or style. You know, for instance, distressed or antiqued, instead
of a smooth finish. It's often used interchangeably with estate jewelry, which simply is jewelry
that's been previously owned. Let's face it -- all antique jewelry has been previously
owned because someone had it 100 years ago. Often, it refers to a particular period of
time or it can evoke emotional responses in people. So antique jewelry means a lot of
things to different people, whether it evokes a memory or whether you're buying antique
jewelry because of the value of it because anything that's that old has an intrinsic
value. For whatever reason, antique jewelry adds a lot to today's fashion and decor. I'm
