Retro Remix - Gamecube

>> Hello. I’m Brent Penrose from “Penrose Films” And today I’m introducing a new section of what I usually do Called “Retro Remix”. Now, this video could be a tech review, A how-to video, um, Pretty much anything along those lines, But it must feature a “retro” product. Now, do I have any retro products? Well, this may be not to retro, but, I think it’s just now old enough, uh to be considered Somewhat of a retro product. What is it? Come on! I’ll show you. It’s the good old Nintendo Game Cube. Remember playing that? Probably not. It wasn’t uh, very much of a popular console; I don’t think. Which is sad because it actually had some pretty good titles, In my opinion. Um, O.K., so, lowering my tripod here. I do everything in a flash. The cool thing about the Game Cube is that it has Two memory card slots; So if you’re going to a buddy’s house, You can just a uh, copy some memory on to your Lesser good card, and take it with you. And then pop it into your buddy’s, uh, memory card slot. The weird thing about the games- look at that disk. It looks like it should be in a, uh, a digital video recorder, Um, that requires these disks. Not uh, a gaming console. Um, and you probably think the graphics would be compromised Uh, due to its small shape. Nope. The games, uh, run like a, uh,- The games on here have good graphics As if they were regular size disks, And a uh, none of the features are compromised Or anything. It’s still a full game. Not like part of one. It’s full. Uh, four slots, and you could hook this thing- There are special cables, so you could hook this thing up, To like a uh, a networking hub. And a um, you could have two Game Cubes together, Um, there would be a four-player split-screen on one T.V. And a four-player split-screen on another T.V. Or you could do each individual Game Cube for each individual player. And there would be a full screen on 8 T.V.’s. Yeah. So you’d have to have a big hub for that. Uh, this thing does not do, a uh, you know, like internet LAN, It’s just a Local Area Network (LAN), and that’s it. Um, and I can’t really say much else, about it, besides the paddle, Which is really nice, Uh, my opinion. And again, I can’t say much about it, So, let’s just go ahead and play a game. For this I’ll play, Mario Kart: Double Dash. I don’t think I have any games like rated E-10 +, or up. [distance] Let’s see here. Uh, they don’t show on the edge. Oh well. Let’s start this baby up. O.K. So we have the a, uh, T.V. on here, And, a uh, I really like the Game Cube startup. Video Cable has loose. Let’s try that again. Now, If you’re a, uh, if you had this open, or there wasn’t a game disk in there, Here is what you’d see. This is when the lid is open. And this is when the lid is closed, but there is no game disk in there. Now if the game disk was in there, it would do like a Windows Auto play feature, uh, and it would automatically go to the game. But I figured out- well my sister did, but I found out what was going on. If you hold down the “A” button, while this thing is starting up, And there is a game in there, and the lid’s closed, You can actually access the menu screen. Check this out. I have the game in there and everything. Now I’m gonna press “A” And then from the nice menu screen- I should probably turn this down a little bit. I have people upstairs sleeping. This Game Cube’s a little louder than I thought it was. Um, so you can adjust the, uh, sound, screen positioning- Yes I do realize that’s off. It’s actually centers it better. Uh, calendar, you know- date and time. Memory card. I’m gonna pull out Slot “B”. And I’m gonna put It in. What I laugh about, is you see how this is just a little higher than this, Look – 55 Blocks open – 1412 Blocks open, and it already has…. (Laughs) I don’t know about you, I believe that that’s a really big memory. Um, and then game play. So click, and then I’ll press the start button. I hope I don’t get sued for copyright infringement. Hello. You know you’re riding on just water – How is that logically possible? I’ll skip that. Sorry about the lines. It’s an issue when you try to video tape cones. Can I get that to go away - no. So I only have one player with me. Everyone else in my house is asleep. Yeah, it’s 10 o’ clock at night. What a nerd. O.K., so we have the grand Prix and we have time trails. For the sake of the video I’ll just do time trails. That’s my sister’s initials. You won’t ever find out what it means. O.K., I don’t, yes- I wanna go that way. I share the same last name. I don’t know why you just needed to save that, but. I’ll just pick those- that’s my standard. Uh, yeah – I actually unlocked this cup. So, for those of you who don’t know how to, I guess I’ll play those four courses. And apparently there’s ghost data. Shure- I’ll load it. Bear in mind what you see here because I’m looking at the official screen And not the, uh, camera. I’m smart back, when… WOOHOO. Oh, can’t do front flips. What the heck. How did you get in front? Whoa, whoa, whoa, Shute. I haven’t played the Game Cube in a long while. I don’t know why but all of the sudden I’ve abandoned my video games. As you can see, I’m not the best at them to begin with. Oh, Shute. There we go. I think Wario perfectly made this course impossible. I meant to say intentionally and instead I said perfectly. I can’t do things in front of cameras, apparently. Great – the Ghost is ahead on me by 6 seconds. Ghost, um, I know I can’t talk to myself in the past, But, can you stop for like, 6 seconds? I’m not doing the skid thing like I do when I was, uh, I don’t know- 10. Yeah, I really don’t play these. No, go to the inside. The inside’s the best. Oh, what do you know about racing? You’re just a plumber! Seriously, this guy started off as a– Mario started off as a plumber and now he’s rescuing Princesses in platform games, He’s racing, he’s defeating, I don’t know, weird turtle shell mutated figures. And he was just a plumber. One plumber gets a lot of publ, plub, plublicity – Publicity. I might as well just end this now. I can’t do anything, besides flub in front of the camera, fail to beat any ghosts, I don’t know. Oh, is it? Apparently it is. Yay, I beat my sister, I guess. Eh, she never did like the scores. O.K.; and I think we’ll change the course. O.K., see, I’m not a personal fan of this. Or this. Oop, there we go. Three, two, one, GO! Whoa, what the? I did that when I was, oh, god… I rock when I was 11. Now I’m still a little too slow. Oh, Shute! That’s right, that was a shorter was around. Or was it…? No one can be too Shure. Whoa- crap! And I had a cool thing too with those, But I guess I won’t be able to take advantage of ‘em. Hello, Dino Dino. Or, however you pronounce your name, Or whatever your name even is in the first place. Losing stability, Losing sight of my ghost, by three full seconds- What the heck? How did that happen? Excuse me, Dino – Awe Shute. O.K. – That was an Epic Fail! That was seriously an Epic Fail. And, normally, Even when I play my sister and everything- I don’t make Epic Fail’s. But, I have to admit that that was a big Epic Fail. And apparently I can’t say anything else but the word Epic Fail in every one of my sentences. EPIC FAIL!!! Ten Seconds! Well, ow… That’s it – I’m using the shortcut. There is also another short cut – its right there. But you need a speed boost. And I pretty much gave mine away- Doing that. That was not intentional. Oh, and if you look at the map – my ghost just finished. What the heck was that? At the top of the screen. Go back a little bit if you didn’t see that red, flying dino. Not really. Or possibly the time after-a that. Second place – Oh my god. O.K. Well get somewhere a little better. I’m looking at this and everything that happens on-screen shows up on my camera a second later. Oh, for a sec there I thought I had four speed boosts – No – It was just the ghost. Oh, what the heck? They have all the obstacles? Oh jeeze. They have the “duel flames”. Oh. Let’s see if I can pull this off. Nah, I didn’t pull that off. I just let my ghost get away. And my mushrooms. And I don’t even like mushrooms but, I do in this game. It’s like a law- whatever you don’t like in real life – You must like in here. Otherwise you can’t play the game properly. Or you’ll just stink at it. That was a close call. O.K., it’s gonna be foolish of me but I’m attempt this again. I think I see what I need to do now. And I got one more lap. Oh well, the ghost is already way ahead of me. Not to concerned. Excuse me. Excuse me. Ow. Excuse me, are you laughing at me? That’s just not nice. Can you quit laughing at me? Seriously, it’s just creeping me out. You guys ready to laugh at me again? I guess not. And I see what I needed to do. I just didn’t know, that I needed to do it, a lap and two ago. Oh, he actually echoed that last second, if you could hear that. I hope you guys can hear this. It’s gonna suck if you can’t This one I love. And my sister hates. I even love the music. I mean, especially since it’s the last course in the last cup, It kind of seems like its saying “Good bye. Thanks for playing Mario Kart. Here’s all the memories you will be able to enjoy after playing this final course.” Oh, I fall into the city. Even on my favorite course. O.K., what is wrong with me? Honestly… I’m concentrating at looking back at this camera, that what. Banana, Giant turtle shell that’s a specialty- Whoa – did that star just try to kill me? I live how on the map it looks like you’re not even moving, meanwhile you’re moving like, very far. Invincibility star – Hello. Had 11 seconds. I hate it when I play Rainbow Road on my DS, and the music is totally different. You like, cannot replace this music. But, Apparently Nintendo did, so, apparently you can replace this music. But it stinks that they did. It’s like a classic tune being removed from radio while it’s still fresh. Then again, this isn’t fresh, this is… I don’t know – 19, No. 2000 something. That star almost tried to kill me again. I love the sound effects on here, too, like when you skid and stuff. Oh, geeez, there is still another lap? And then they speed up the music. To make it feel like you’re really in a rush. Epic Fail. I crash on the outside of the track. I suppose that’s not too much of an Epic Fail on the inside. Oh, then I’ve caused several Epic Fail’s. It sucks that you guys can’t see the full beauty of this- You’re seeing all these black lines. WWWEEEEEE!!! You can never be too Shure. And the time after that. And he’ll try the time after that. Well, that’s just about all there is to Mario Kart. I mean, they have a whole bunch of records, in stuff. Grand Prix, Star, La, la, la, la, la. Return, return. I mean, my main thing is on the Game Cube itself- And I really can’t say much. That was why I couldn’t get this thing well centered. Now let’s see here, if I can lower this a little bit… Like about, that much, yeah, that’s good. Now it needs to go up, slightly. O.K., oh well. That should be enough tinkering. The screen is a little, not very square is it is. Well, that’s, really all I can say about Mario kart. Oh yeah, when Mario says let’s a-go right there, Like right here, When I was young, I always thought he said LAN-sickle. I don’t know why. And then eventually I realize that he was saying “Lets-a go.” I only realized that about a year ago. Sad and pathetic, but true. Hey, I’m admitting something that some people don’t admit, O.K. Well, some people, anyway. Grand Prix is basically just the same thing as time trails, except, You have more people, and, as much as I am honest, I don’t do well with shame and embarrassment. Uh, [laughs]. Well, actually I’m not too bad now, but, When I was young, yeah. I was, a, uh, horrible. Well, that was a game. Um, I think all get a little more in on, a uh, With what you can do with memory cards. Some cool things, uh, with memory cards that you can do, Like I said, copying files. If there’s something that you really like, Copy, yes, and now it’s on Slot B. So now I can remove it. Put it back in and you see its still there. And then I can go over here; You can see I can’t copy or move it, uh, since it’s already on the other slot. All I can do is erase. And now see, what move does, see, now it’s on drive be. I mean, slot B. It’s not on slot A. Now, what I’m showing you right now can be done on your Wii console. If you do play games, game cube games on your Wii, or you have an SD card, That you want to transfer some memory to; From the startup menu on the Wii, go to your settings, And where the two options, data management and Wii settings should appear, Select data management. Here, you can select a new file that looks similar to this, And they’re actually referred to as the same thing. There called blocks. And every block will take up so much memory depending on what it is, And, you know. You will get a menu I believe is in the same exact list, move, copy, and erase. Where you can move, and copy, and erase. I don’t want to erase that. I don’t even know what “that” is. Well that’s a couple things you can do. Options, you know, change the stereo, Mono, stereo, Mono … We’ll keep it stereo. And the screen positioning, uh, you know that will ... So then you can see the screen is shifting one way, and then it shifts the other way. And then, calendar. You know, you got the idea – it’s the date and time. Which in this thing always runs fast, for some reason. It always runs a little fast. Uh, the cool thing is you can remove the power from this thing, And it will still keep the time. I’ve moved several times and I’ve never had to, uh, rearrange the date and time. It’s still on time. Uh, it runs a little fast. And when I say that, I don’t mean the regularly referred term “a few minutes ahead” – I’m literally mean that it goes a little too fast. It wants to see the future faster than time can actually travel. [chuckles] Well, um, that’s just about it. Um, the only other thing that I can really say, Uh, about the GameCube, is you saw those awesome graphics, right? Well, what if I were to tell you that the graphics on this system, Again shrinking my tripod as I go a long and the video, Totally unprepared of what level it needs to be at, While not making marks on my tripod, Is, if you can see that, graphics by ATI. Yeah, digital zoom sucks. Um, and you saw those awesome graphics. All pull that up again… O.K., I think we all get the good thing about the graphics. But, when I wanted to show you is the startup. Hold down the “Z” on the player one controller. OK, and then, now, one person - four controllers – this is not the easiest task, But, I think I can do it. Let’s see here. Isn’t that awesome?
