Tijuana's Mental Health's Hospital
Hello, my name's Laura, I'm a clinical psychologist and family therapist
I work at the Tijuana's Mental Health's Hospital
I've been working here since 3 years ago but I am a clinical psychologist since 25 years ago
What I do here, is to manage the psychological hospitalization department
and patients attention, like individual and familiar theraphy, different activities such as music therapy,
dance therapy, crafts and the application of different psychodiagnostic tests to improve the examination.
each patient who joins here, is examinated by inteligence and personality tests
For example,we assign them the test called Wais-lll which is an intelligence scale for adults where we
use 14 scales, 7 are verbal and 7 for practice, later the results are divided acording with a pattern.
We get the overall average to know the patient's physiological strengths and weaknesses
Finally we have a kind of polygon graph which describes the intellectual capacity.
It tell us if it is more or less than the general average or if there are mental deficiencies.
All the information is useful to acquire an important amount of psychologocial material to reach the diagnotisc.
Statistics is a science which let us to collect data to analyse and finally to obtain a result which will
help us to make a decision about some situation.
What are statistics used for?
Statistics are used for example, to know the amount of people living in the planet
How many adults and children? How many men and women?
It is also useful to know when it rises or decreases a company's profit.
In case of a Mental Health's Hospital there is an analysis for the patients wich is compared with graphs
and some data to obtain the diagnostic.
We also use mathematics with the Rorschach test which consists of some color and b&w inkblots on paper sheets.
These are described by the patients, they say what they look or what they think it is.
We make a compilation of data about how many time he took to answer, what did he look, where did he look it, how did he look it and what he thought.
Mathematics are really useful here to obtain according with their answers, a kind of form to solve which gives me an interpretation of those percentages.
Practically, it is an examination of the personality. How the patient drives his impulses, his affection, (How he controls these ones), his intelligence's level and functioning.
So this test gives me very important and accurate information while we integrate and solve
At the end we get the final diagnostic which is formed by each previous psychometric test, always using mathematics.
So I'll be considering your time while you solve the puzzle...
After all we can conclude that mathematics are certainly important in psychology to obtain more veritable data to get a more effective diagnostic
and not just the psychologist's examination.
So thanks to mathematics and psychology we have now what we could call a psychological radiography.
