Hello, this is Lucas Palmeira from Imaginando, and I'm here to give you another tutorial on the DRC.
Today, I'm gonna show you how to make the synth and bass sound from the song 'Can't do without you' by Caribou
So to start I'm gonna open DRC on a default patch
Here we have it and
I'm gonna start by changing the Waveform from sawtooth to square wave
I'm gonna drop the cutoff filter to Here (0.06)
raise the resonance to here (0.4)
Gonna change the mode of the filter from a low pass 4 pole (LP4) to a low pass 2 pole (LP2)
And drop the envelope generator 2 which is modulating the cutoff
to about this much (0.38)
Now on the first envelope generator, I'm gonna raise the attack a little bit to about here (0.06)
On the decay I'm gonna raise it to here (0.75)
And sustain I'm gonna drop it to about here (0.4)
Okay now on the second envelope generator. I'm gonna raise the attack to about here (0.1)
The decay I'm going to raise it to here (0.3)
and raise the sustain to here (0.6)
And the release should be okay
Now I'm gonna give it a little bit of chorus with low rating low depth
rate (0.15) depth (0.15)
Now for a little bit of reverb decay (0.5) amount (0.15)
And finally some delay, we sync the time of the delay - we'll put the time on one fourth triplet (1/4T)
Okay now drop the spread to zero and give it a little bit of feedback (0.17)
amount (0.17)
Now for the bass sound gonna grab another DRC
Here we have it and I'm gonna drop on the first oscillator one octave
Gonna change the mode from poly to mono
Raise the pre gain to about here (0.9) master as well (0.9)
Now raise the first oscillator to here (0.7)
And the second oscillator to about this much (0.5)
Okay now we're gonna drop the cutoff filter to here (0.3)
And the resonance is at zero, now we drop the envelope generator 2 its modulation cutoff to (0.23)
Now
On the first envelope generator,
We simply raised the sustain to maximum and on the second envelope generator
I think we have to do nothing
Yes, so now we just go to the chorus and give it a little bit of chorus with low rate and low depth (0.16)
And this should be our sounds so
Now gonna play the melody that I've recorded before
Just gonna raise to sustain a little the reverb on my voice so I can sing the melody
Like this
Okay
take the reverb off so you can hear me well, and this is it
I Hope you have enjoyed this tutorial remember
That we do these tutorials for mainly two things, one is to show the flexibility and the powerful sound of the DRC
while at the same time trying to give basic knowledge of sound synthesis
additive and subtractive synthesis respectively
so if some sound or some music isn't exactly the same we know that the instruments are different and
There is absolutely no processing involved in the sound creation in the DRC
so you are listening to the synthesizers without any effects either on the tracks and on the master
So I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and I hope to see you again next week, goodbye.
