This is Steve “The Dragon” Jimenez and in this segment we are going to go over straight
punches. There are three different types of straight punches that we have. There are either
straight punches making contact with the fist or with the palm and heel strike, all the
mechanics in between are the same, but just now you can either make contact with the fist
with these two knuckles here or you can make contact with the heel, the palm or the heel
here. In our straight punches, our weapon in Krav Maga, all are weapons always lead
first. The weapon always goes and then the body goes behind it. You must stay squared
out my chin is down, shoulders are slightly forward and I am in a very relaxed position,
the punch goes out. It goes out loose and relaxed, on impact make contact. On impact
we close our fist and tighten up and we make contact with the top three knuckles. Here
we try to keep our fist in a vertical position as if you are holding a coffee mug, that is
real quick, here making contact. Notice that shoulder is up and the chin is slightly down,
so I can protect the face during combat. From here, I am going to rotate, when I rotate
my body, my entire body, my hip goes into the stride. The one hand is punching and the
other is always defending, guard is always up. You either have a full guard or you have
a half guard either one that was a straight punch. I did mention that we have a palm heel
strike as well. The thing about the palm heel strike it eliminates the one joint, it is
actually a stronger strike and it can also eliminate a possible injury from the joint,
maybe tweaking the wrist. So, if you want to be a little safer, maybe if it is a woman
who has nails, they cannot make a tight fist so the nail do not dig into the palm of the
hand, you can actually strike with the palm here. Every time we strike, we strike into
different areas. We are striking here, I am going to use both strikes, here, here, here,
here, here, here.
