The environment is a primary issue for voters
in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti electorate.
The sea is their main food source, which is why they are weary
of deep-sea exploration and oil drilling.
Rangitukia - where the elements converge
like the passion of it's people.
We just want the government to leave our foreshore alone, undisturbed.
It's a big issue for this seaside settlement.
The big question is who will help protect their environs?
Many of us support the big guy, Parekura.
But some don't agree.
The problem with Labour is they spend too much money.
What another resident wants to know is how will our people
get a bigger slice of the cake?
I've read the policies of the Mana Party about eradicating poverty,
that's where my vote will go.
Further down the coast in Ruatorea at the iconic
Manutahi pub, issues are on tap.
But no word yet for the Maori Party candidate
Na Raihania or the party itself.
Every voter, a different perspective.
In the last four elections, I've voted for the Green Party.
Who will you vote for?
At the bottom of the Ikaroa-Rawhiti electorate,
- Wainuiomata
with the Kingi-Rewharewha family,
where two political parties are making an impact.
I'm still sitting on the fence,
but I'm leaning towards Labour and the Greens.
Ikaroa-Rawhiti voters live seaside, and their environment is everything.
Parekura Horomia appears to be the preferred candidate of choice,
with the party vote in favour of the Greens and Labour.
Ngahuia Wade, Te Karere.
