Hello, and thank you for joining us. This series of helpful training videos will teach
you how to use My Tax Account, the Department of Revenue’s online business tax system.
My Tax Account is free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It allows you to
view your account information, file and amend returns, make payments and much more.
This training is divided into six sections. Watch them in order, or watch only those that
apply to your business or agency. In this series you will learn to:
Register for My Tax Account. File and pay sales tax.
File and pay withholding tax. Pay other tax types, print returns and
Set up third party access.
This video will give you an overview of My Tax Account, its navigation and help features.
You’ll start each session at the My Tax Account Login Screen. This is where you’ll
register for, and log in to, My Tax Account. It’s available on our website at tap.revenue.wi.gov
or by clicking the My Tax Account icon on the Department of Revenue homepage.
On the My Tax Account Login Screen, you will be able to log in, get answers to common questions
and find My Tax Account tips and training.
Here are four tips to help you navigate:
Tip one: Use the help features. As you navigate in My Tax Account, gray boxes
will appear at the top or on the right of your screen. These gray boxes offer general
tips about the screen you are on. When you’re completing a return, you’ll
find links to form instructions and common questions in the upper right of the screen.
Click on a blue circle with a question mark to find help information specific to that
line. If an entry field is red, it means there is
an error. Hover over the field with your computer mouse for a brief description of the error.
If an entry field is yellow, it means it is a required field.
From every screen, you can click under the My Tax Account icon in the upper left of your
screen to link to common questions about using the program.
Tip two: Update your web browser. To avoid issues with the way screens look
in My Tax Account, use the following minimum versions, of these widely used web browsers:
Internet Explorer 8 or higher Chrome 11 or higher
Firefox 4 or higher Safari 5 or higher
Opera 11 or higher
Links to download current versions are available on our website.
Tip three: Follow the steps and let us do the math for you.
My Tax Account forms are designed to be simple and similar to the paper forms you may already
be familiar with. Amounts due and other calculations will appear as you enter information. For
longer forms, additional steps will appear if needed. Simply click on the step link to
enter information.
Tip four: Use the menu on the left and use the tabs at the middle of your screen.
The panel on the left side of the screen has action buttons that change depending on the
screen you’re on. Look here to submit returns and payments, confirm information and add
attachments. There are also tabs across the middle of the screen. Look here to find third
party accounts, pending requests, and many other items.
Since My Tax Account opens new browser windows for some functions, you may want to disable
the popup blocker on your browser when using the program.
You also need an up-to-date version of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDFs in My Tax Account.
Thanks for watching. Continue to video 2 to learn how to register for My Tax Account.
