My name is Norman Jewison, I'm a film director, producer, writer, actor and layabout.
I graduated from the University of Toronto, from Victoria College, way back in the class
of '49, I think. I was able, during my three years at the U
of T, to mount some variety shows and some comedy shows. And I think that had a great
effect and bearing on what I ended up doing for a living.
My whole sense of social justice and that whole area, dealing with subject matter much
later in my life in the United States in films -- that was all incubated at the University
of Toronto. There's all kinds of people that have passed
through the U of T that have made their name importantly in the field of communications.
This university is world-class. I mean, to even get in to the University of Toronto is,
to me, an achievement. But once you get in there, relax and have a good time and try
to pull out of that university as much as you can, because it's all there for you.
