I want to create an experience for the client. My name is Jeff Messer, I've been messaging
for about 3 years. I am a CMT. I studied with IPSB, which stands
for The Institute of Psycho-Structural Balancing here in Cuvler City.
Why do you Massage? I like doing massage just because it gives
me a reward on how to give back to make others feel good.
Being a masseur... One of the greatest aspects of being a massage
therapist is you're often told that you're doing a good job or what an amazing job you've
done. Because people feel good when they leave.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I enjoy hanging out with friends. I love to
go see a good movie. I like doing little house projects. I'm a little bit of a "fix-it" kind
of man. I grew up around power tools and building things, so home improvement projects are a
lot of fun.
Learning new techniques... I do have therapist that I trade with. It
helps me to continue my education and to learn new techniques, as well as relaxing and getting
myself back into the proper shape I need to be.
Before the massage... Before we get into the massage, it's important
for me to know if there is any medical issues, areas that I should avoid. That would include
areas that are ticklish. Then I also like to ask what type pressure people like.
Communication... I think that it's important that there is
a lot of communication between the client and the therapist. I'm not going to be offended
if someone says, "Can you go a little bit lighter or a little bit harder? " or "Can
you go back and do this area again?" Because it may have felt good the first time, it may
have been sore. It really needs to be a joint effort in getting a good massage.
I have a certain section of the massage when I will stop and say, "How's the pressure?"
At that point I can either try to go a little deeper or lighten up.
About Jeff's Massage It's a Swedish style. It's a circulatory type
of massage, which really helps your blood to start flowing again. Often of the times,
my clients will fall asleep.
The type of massage I do includes a lot of Thai-chi, Thai movements.
The Environment... The environment that I create, I try to make
it very "SPA" like. I have candles, scented, aromatherapy. I try to incorporate an environment
that is conducive to relaxation.
I do have a shower facility that I keep clean and allow clients to use.
Jeff's Massage Demo The first thing we do is really just some
strokes to warm the muscles up to kind of get them ready for us to jump in and loosen
them up, get the blood pumping.
I usually like to do one side of the body, then the other. Starting with the lower back
and then moving to the area between the shoulder blades, which a lot of people usually find
to be an area where a lot of soreness comes in.
What is a Knot? What a knot is, the lubrication between the
muscle fibers have disappeared. This type of massage will actually get those muscle
fibers sliding over the top of each other, which releases the knot. It's not actually
a clump of muscles.
I get a lot of compliments because I'll touch several muscle groups that don't usually get
massaged during a session. I do spend I think a little more time on the legs. They tend
to not get enough attention.
Pecs & Shoulders I find that a lot of people don't realize
that their pecs and their shoulders actually are antagonistic to each other. Which means
that they have to work together in order to move the shoulder. So you might feel the pain
back here, but it's because your pec is actually too tight. So it's important to actually get
in and loosen up the pec as well. I usually try to instruct the client some different
exercises they can do on their own just to get that loosened up.
Most of the time I'm standing during the massage. When it comes to beginning to flip you over
to do the pectoral region it's easiest to encompass all of the muscle groups by sitting
down. I'll sit down again once usually to do the head and the neck, which I usually
leave 'til the end.
It's actually kind of good for someone to pull on your arm for you. Just like your fingers,
or if you would of hang upside down.
Now at this position I'm actually covering the shoulder, the bicep and the tricep.
It's funny 'cause most clients have a hard time letting go of their arms for some reason.
That and their neck, they don't like to give up control.
Carpal Tunnel When you hear someone with carpal tunnel it's
usually because they've done a motion and their hand has pull together. All the nerves
that are in the hand come through these two bones, and they have a band that goes over
the top of them. Carpal Tunnel is actually a syndrome where that space has closed up
and causing pain.
So if you actually take your carpal, and you can do this yourself, if you just put your
hand flat on a surface, and open it up these two bones right here. You can actually feel
them moving just a little bit. Whether you have carpal tunnel or not, this is a good
thing to do.
Thank You I look forward to meeting you. I hope that
you found what you were looking for in this video and I'd love to get my hands on you!
