GoGoNews.com: Big News for Little People. In my classroom we remind ourselves of the
quote by Eugene Debs. "My country is the Earth, and I am a citizen of the world." We have
to remind students that they are just one person, and that their loyalties lie not just
to the country that they were born in, but to the entire world. So I try to encourage
my students to bring in news articles, and we take time every day to go over current
events. I have found that many of my students bring in articles from this website, GoGoNews.com.
They all like how it's colored and the layout. Each article has pictures and uses very simple
vocabulary that is very easy for them to grasp. It also breaks down news articles into different
sections such as news, the planet, cool and fun, top picks, in-depth, animals, and teaching.
They can also scroll further down and see various articles over the last few months.
If they don't like something they see they can just click through, and maybe something
will pop up that they like. There are also some links down at the bottom that have jokes
or just cool and fun stuff if the students are looking for a laugh. The other thing that
I really enjoy about GoGoNews.com is that they have their own app that can be purchased
through iTunes. It's free so I use purchase loosely. However, in this day and age as much
as I wish that my students did not have iPads and iPhones they do have access to them. So
being able to access this news site while on their iPads is very useful. So in the end,
GoGo News is a great source for kid-friendly articles, but I would keep it to the elementary
school grades. After that it's just a little bit too simple for them. Thank you for letting
me share this resource with you.
