in america the fight over the teaching of creationism or intelligent design the
classroom is never really far away we see popping up across the south even
sometimes in states like pennsylvania i think it's happened in wisconsin
uh... but one of the good things for people who don't want to tell of
designing talking public schools is that the proponents of creationism uh...
often are very creative in terms of how they present it's usually just you know
you have to teach the debate or whatever they pretend to be
uh... but unfortunately they're starting to get a bit more creative i'm speaking
particularly here about uh... missouri representative patrick brands in the
state government
and he has a very interesting strategy for how he wants to introduce
intelligent design into the classroom and that is by simply changing the
definitions of every word that has to do it science basically so we've got some
fun definitions for you were to start with the definition of scientific theory
according to regret in who has multiple p_h_d_'s i have to assume
but not the actual willfully are now at yet
as though he defines scientific theory out like this
it's and infra-red explanation of incompletely understood phenomena about
the physical universe based on limited knowledge
whose components are dado lives have been faith-based foster thing
while since
exactly okay let's go out hypothesis and you'll understand why and the fighting
in this way
uh... once we get to the end of this i hate the a scientific theory again he's
complaining about this is a very uh... reflecting a minority of scientific
opinion which may lack acceptance because it is a new idea contains faulty
logic lack supporting data has significant amounts of conflicting data
scores philosophically unpopular
so there is trying to define hypothesis in a way that it basically only could
mean creationism but i love it is like preemptively admitting that contains
faulty logic black supporting data has significant amounts of conflicting data
and in a very first few words of that
definition to show you how much of a crowd he is
hypothesis mysterio are two different things exactly yeah and ash i'd love
that he's taking insult seriously here and he's making a total four out of
himself what is the prevail
campus
i mean it's working there and to keep dialing yet for the third definition
we've got for you this is standard science which he defines that's
knowledge disclosed in a truthful an objective manner and the physical
universe
without any preconceived philosophical demands concerning origin our destiny
now why did you talk about origin of destiny here
here's why he goes on in this is actually in the bill it says biological
identity intelligent design is taught if it's taught
any proposed identity of the intelligence responsible for mildly
shelby verifiable by present-day observation or experimentation
antisocial not question survey or otherwise influence student belief in a
non verifiable identity within a science course
now that may sound kind of reasonable flood we're not gonna push you know the
the biblical gotta give but it's also making it so that they can't say isn't
the villain biblical god
talking about this would you want your children growing up in missouri schools
of the sort of past no i wouldn't want my children growing up in missouri
schools and even if it didn't pass uh... talking about it
head of the sorry
and i don't want to start with
now dozens and i love people of missouri i wanna remained here in los angeles and
that's not to say that misery schools are bad or you can be the alley usd is a
complete and utter nightmare so
i'd just don't wanna have kids because i was subjected to the some participation
that we have here in the u_s_ but that's beside the point
isaiah i'd appreciate him trying to be creative in nag getting creationism in
schools
but as uh... we have talked about on the second hour before
there even have to get creative in states like texas our public schools are
already teaching the bible to students and originally bs elective classes were
meant to be
uh... you know just
unless it about the bible and not have religious indoctrination
but as we reported now it is a religious in our indoctrination because they're
teaching kids
that everything that you're reading in the bible is the truth you know and and
you should believe this and there's there's no question that we were i you
know created by intelligent design and is not so
so it's a real problem because
you're seeing this assault on our public education not just when it comes to
curriculum but also when it comes to finding
and we have to stop
being asleep at the wheel we need to wake up because
these kids are future and we're basically
training uh... nation and its in the future and we can't we can't let this
continue to happen and trying to train them to be even better that better
idiots in the future
uh... i think book do you have a choice in this country who you can allow to be
influenced your young children when it comes to learning scientifically that
you can have regretted in missouri or maybe you could have done my you'll
depressed i said men like this in a little bit more about the definitions of
these words and rick run i think it's unfortunate i don't know like the scopes
monkey trial for like a thousand years ago when are we gonna stop this debating
this
two things i wish that he had grown up watching bill night maybe we wouldn't
have this problem
