My name is Corinna Shepherd and i work with children who struggle
with dyslexia on a daily basis and I'm passionate to help them enter that
world of words and imagination and from that I've developed a range
of books under the umbrella of Dancing Kites.
Dancing Kites books are unique in that they are developed as part of
a scheme of language progression. So they start off and the words
that are introduced follow a particular pattern. They are based
on spelling age rather than reading age and so for example if
a boy or girl has an age of 9 but they've got a spelling age of
say 4, they're not having to read books that are too young for them
but they will engage their interest level. There are many
design features that have been incorporated and trialed which
make them easy to read and to process visually.
I've found that the children really respond well to these materials.
They love the pictures, they get engaged in the story and they're
reading and they're spelling almost without realising and it's been
a useful tool for me to assess where there are any problems that
they need to work on.
This is an ongoing project so we really value your feedback so we can
help develop these products and make them better for the future to help
children engage better in the world of words and imagination
