Okay so here we have our candlesticks, they've been sitting on the drying rack for a few
days. And now they're ready to trim. The process of trimming a candlestick is a little different
than most parts. Most parts you can simply turn them over and place them upside down
and then trim the base. With a candlestick we can't do that obviously because there is
a long thin piece here, and that will crack when we try to trim it. So what we do is we
make ourselves what's called a chuck. And a chuck is simply a piece of clay that has
been thrown into a cylinder. If you want to learn how to throw these larger forms, you
can go to one of our other exercises. Where we are throwing larger pieces. Basically it's
the same exact process. We're making sure that there's enough room inside there. To
lower our candlestick down into. And we're just going to simply place the candlestick
down in there and let it sit like that. So the last thing we're going to want to do before
we trim is actually center this candlestick onto the chuck. And I'm going to show you
how to do that next.
